Why is 'The Office' making Andy Bernard a Michael Scott clone?

The NBC comedy, says Chuck Barney, "just seems to be retracing its steps with Andy, who shares too many of Michael's characteristics. Both men are odd, insecure, needy and socially awkward. It's like the writers were so fearful of changing the show's dynamic that they clung to the same oil' formula. Unfortunately, Helms was always better in smaller doses."

Andy is nothing like Michael Scott. ANdy is too goofy to be a BOSS

I've only seen one episode with Andy as boss. I'm currently blasting through an Office marathon via Netflix. I'm halfway through season 4. Unless they've completely changed Andy's personality as a boss, then I don't see them as that similar, although they both get themselves in crazy situations.

The major difference in their personalities, in my opinion, is that Andy has a mean streak, while Michael does not. Michael says insensitive things and often thinks out loud, yet he's not sneaky and manipulative, like Andy.

Andy doesn't seem to have a backbone as a manager. Just like last week when the phone was ringing and he wanted someone to be the receptionist since the person who does that was on vacation, when he asked no one volunteered to do it and he didn't choose anyone to do it. Guess what? he was the receptionist for the day which is pathetic-lol

I actually caught that episode. I think Andy stayed on as receptionist because he got into it. If he hated it, he would have assigned it to someone else.

I know but as the manager you are supposed to assign someone else to do it because you have to attend to bigger issues-lol Michael Scott would have never been in that situation

I need to wait and see before assessing Andy's role as Manager. I've only seen two episodes of him in that role. Talk to me in two weeks, lol.
