This is my favorite episode of SBTB (the one where Zack asks Kelly to go steady until he falls for the new school nurse played by Nancy Valen). I've had the hugest crush on Nancy Valen for the longest time from that episode. I don't know why Nancy Valen didn't become a bigger star (she kind of reminds me of Kristin Davis from Sex and the City, except w/ maybe higher cheekbones) instead of simply being "that hot brunette chick", who was on Baywatch for one season turned infomercial queen.
I'll always bring up the scene at the end of the episode where the nurse (after Jessie, Slater, and Lisa tattletale on Zack for mistreating Kelly in favor of the nurse) pays Zack back by luring him into her office and proceeds to seduce/scare him straight. I suppose that you can still enjoy this episode as long as you don't think about it too much afterwards. I mean, it is when you get right down to it, kind of creepy that a the school nurse (which makes her a de facto authority figure like Mr. Belding is as the principal), who is at least in her early 20s is hitting on (regardless of the actual intent) a teenage, high school boy. I seriously don't think that something like that would easily fly on a youth-oriented, otherwise light-hearted and campy sitcom like Saved by the Bell today when compared to 1990. |
