Like most good shows, the last several seasons of it (I'd even argue that nearly everything "post Jock") were not up to the standard of the early years. And the finale was completely disappointing.
At its height, though, Dallas was "Must See" drama. I can still remember watching the Hulk, then usually taking a break during the Dukes, then getting all excited to watch Dallas with my folks at nine on Fridays. The emotions and conflicts on that show were riveting; family drama at it's best! |

And the storylines got very silly -- J.R. in a shotgun hillbilly wedding, J.R. in an insane asylum, etc. The last episode was eerily close to real life in the respect that Hagman was a full-fledged alcoholic. I wonder if Hagman had been sober and had his full faculties, if he would have allowed that "It's a wondeful life"-type ending. Joel Gray as Satan? Puh-leeze! Is it just me, or was anyone else not convinced until the finale that April had really died? The way Bobby handled it -- no funeral or memorial service, had me convinced that they'd just written Sheree Wilson off the show so she could have her baby in real life. |

Ken Kercheval was the other original member left at the end. I agree the J.R. hillbilly wedding and him gettin locked up in the insane asylum was silly. |
