Default When Did 'BMW' Jump the Shark?

http://web.archive.org/web/200710110...chartOnly=true

http://www.scary-crayon.com/spectare/bmwtrini/

Quote:
Or at least it was at first, because I'm almost certain that the show jumped the shark when Cory and Topanga officially got together. When they became an item, the show went from being "Boy Meets World" to "Boy Runs Around in Circles in Ridiculous Zany TV Sitcom Suburb". Rather than having only recently become friends, Cory and Topanga's relationship -- which was largely representative of all of the growth that the characters had experienced thus far -- was retconned such that they had practically proposed to each other from the womb. As noted, Topanga suddenly mutated from a sincere oddball into an annoying cross between Kelly Kapowski and Jessie Spano. Save Shawn and Eric, the latter of whom inexplicably went *beep* crazy shortly thereafter, other characters' exploits were marginalized so that the writers could focus on placing Cory and Topanga in wacky husband/wife type scenarios even though they were still in high school. Depending upon the episode and the writers' whims, Shawn's personality pingponged between cool, together dude and deeply troubled, desperate individual who pines for love and seeks acceptance from underground cults. Remember how we discussed passive and active viewing earlier? This is the kind of stuff that only a passive viewer could tolerate without comment. Only Feeny more or less retained his original personality, and his presence there didn't even make sense because nobody has the same teacher from kindergarten through college.

I think it 'jumped the shark' by the end of the third season, but I really enjoyed the mild anarchy of the final season.

The show jumped the shark after it was learned that it took place in the 1990s (when everyone was unhappy) instead of the 1970s, unlike The Wonder Years, which had been canceled! I had thought this would be a sequel to the show, but no!

I don't think it ever 'jumped hte shark' but they made a big mistake rewriting history and having Cory and Topanga be in love with each other since day 1.

When Eric became ********. Seriously, I couldn't stand him. The collage years were horrible, IMO.

Boy Meets World never, ever jumped the shark because Corey and Topanga never had sex.

Default i dont think it ever jumped the shark

there we a couple stupid episodes through out the series but it always bounced
back.the writing was always decent the sixth season was excellent and even the final season had alot of up moments.as far as cory and topanga go they didnt have sex till after they were married.the show wasn't sleazy
like that the show stayed to what it was a boy finding out what the world was about.

Default I hated the later seasons of Boy Meets World

http://officialfan.proboards.com/ind...&thread=469069

Quote:
I may be in the minority here. I much prefer the earlier seasons for a variety of reasons. In the later seasons may as well have been called "the Cory and Topanga show," because they were practically the only characters. I know they were the central roles, but it felt like they got over-emphasized at the expense of the rest of the cast; Cory's brother went from a strong supporting character to laugh-track filler, and his parents practically vanished altogether. It also felt like the writers were tapped out, because the episodes got more and more outlandish with things like Cory going back in time. And I think they jumped the shark by having Cory and Topanga get married before the final season; they were one of those perfect TV couples that you knew would end up together, so actually showing them tie the knot felt pointless. I think the episode with them actually getting married would have been better as the actual series finale, the culmination of a near decade long build up.

And as much as I disliked the later seasons, I loathed the middle ones because the show may as well have been called "Horny Boy Meets World." With the premise being about a kid growing to maturity, sex was bound to enter the equation eventually, but they got a bit heavy handed with it. There was a period when it seemed like virtually every episode was about Cory trying to get laid. Hope I am not alone in thinking this.

I don't think it ever did because it never lost sight of its goals and the first season is my least favorite.

Sure it made some mistakes like making Eric too dumb by the end, the break up in season 5 got a bit too soap opera-y, and changing some background info like when Cory and Topanga met but the show remained funny and kept the good writing so it never lost the plot like it would have under a weaker staff and crew.

Boy Meets World never jumped the shark- I definitely would have remembered that episode. But the characters on the show did go to Disney World in one episode and Cory met up with some dolphins though.
(Sorry, I've never liked the term "jumped the shark" probably because I don't think "Happy Days" ever jumped the shark even though Fonzie did in fact literally jump the shark.)
And "Boy Meets World" is great all the way from Season 1 to Season 7! I love it!
I only hope the spinoff show will be as good.

Probably when they had Eric become totally insane in Season 7. For me, the inconsistencies didn't make the show jump the shark, but they got on my nerves a lot!

Boy Meets World jumped the shark when Rachel joined the cast and Eric was dumbed down. The first four seasons are excellent, season 5 is ok, and the last 2 seasons are unwatchable.

Boy Meets World was never intended to be a Wonder Years sequel. Just because Fred and Ben Savage are brothers doesn't mean the shows would be connected.

The Shows are connected because both shows are about 2 teenage boys dealing the people and the world around them only difference between the shows is that The Wonder Years is set in the late 60's to 70's, Boy Meets World is set in the early 90's to early 2000's, The Wonder Years has a voice narrater, Boy Meets World has a laugh track,Boy Meets World is a sequel to the Wonder Years,Their is no way in the world a TV show like Boy Meets world would have been made if The Wonder Years never existed.
