Default Does the 2006 Movie Get too Much of a Bad Rap?

1. The people who were expecting an action flick in the sense of Bad Boys. I do like the Bad Boys movies, but I wasn't really expecting it to be remotely similar.

2. The people who wanted it to be set in the 80s. It didn't matter the time setting. The A-Team was set in modern times and the movie was good.

However, I did want to see a gritty cop drama with a touch of action or suspense, but when you compare the TV show to the movie, it doesn't seem right. For starters, Colin Farrell didn't seem like Crockett to me, nor did Jamie Foxx as Tubbs. Plus, you had Tubbs with Trudy, when the two weren't together in the series, and don't even get me started on that cringeworthy sex scene. I have a feeling that they wanted something to replace the Gina/Sonny deal early on in the series, but I didn't find Trudy/Rico to be believable whatsoever. Let's not forget that Gina, Zito, and Switek didn't play that big of roles in the movie, despite being prominent characters in the series. I can say the same thing about Castillo, who was also seen as an afterthought in the movie.

Years ago, I used to work as a video store clerk. I often found that people were looking to be most adventurous in their film choices on Saturday afternoon. So I would take time and give them something they haven’t seen before. So this bi-weekly column, “The Saturday Afternoon Shift” is a series of essays about films I think viewers would be interested in seeing, films you perhaps haven’t heard of or overlooked in your search for entertainment. Today’s film is Michael Mann’s adaptation of the classic 80s cop show for the new millenia, Miami Vice.

Miami Vice movie was good and i don't care if people didn't like it. I liked it and that's all that matters. I bought it on dvd. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx did a good job. I didn't have a problem with Jamie and the cute black woman's naked kissing scene in the shower and in the bed. I can't think of her name but i saw her in a couple of movies like Mandela with Idris Elba, last James Bond movie and Street Kings with Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker.

I wonder if Don Johnson (assuming that he saw it) liked the Miami Vice movie? I mean, he was later in Django Unchained w/ Jamie Foxx, so I guess there weren't that many "hard feelings".

That's a good question. I wonder if Don and Philip saw the movie. I saw Django Unchained and it was funny seeing Don play a slave master LOL. He had a funny name LOL. You remember what his name was?

With the series getting shown on CoziTV it got me interested that I watched the movie and it's just not that good, not because it isn't like Bad Boys or it's not set in the 80's it's just not an overall good movie.

It reminded me of another Michael Mann movie 'Heat' but that movie was good, this one here feels like a bad copycat of it.

I disagree. Miami Vice movie is good. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx did a good job. I like the black guy that played Colin and Jamie's boss. I forgot his name. He played on a tv show that Michael Mann produced that came on CBS network with Tom Sizemore. I forgot the name of the show. The black guy and Tom played cops and they were partners.

Some of the comments that I recently read online say that the movie is a lot of style over substance. It's when you get right down to it, a 150 million dollar art house blockbuster. Imagine if Terrence Malick made a trashy crime thriller to put it in another way.

Michael Mann's Miami Vice (Collin Farrell / Jaimie Foxx) is a film adaptation made from the popular 80s tv series following two cops as they journey into the gritty underbelly of Miami Florida's criminal underworld. The movie features top notch performances, wonderfully nostalgic needle drops, a very vibe-heavy musical score and not to mention an artistic visual language that allows you to see much more than you hear in this dark crime drama. The question today is- how does it hold up? Let's find out today!
