Purely because she replaced Ellen as Alex's love interest? I immediately figure that most people would prefer Alex to be with Ellen since Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollen wound up getting married to each other in real life. Ironically, Lauren was if I'm not mistaken, in much more episodes then Ellen (like 13 more).

Alex had no chemistry at all with Lauren so yea I didn't like her character that much. She really didn't bring anything to the show.

There just wasn't any chemistry between Alex and Lauren like there had been between Alex and Ellen. I didn't dislike Lauren but on the other hand there wasn't much to like about her either.

I think her character was disliked too easily because she replaced Ellen. I'm not sure people gave the character a real chance or the actress that played her. I think it's hard when a character is constantly compared to another. The same can be said for the actress/actor who plays the character.

The main problems with Lauren:
*Courtney Cox and MJF had virtually little to no chemistry. I think part of it has to do with Courtney Cox not being that seasoned of a performer yet (I think Family Ties was really the first big thing that she did because before that, she was best known as the girl in Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" video). *Lauren overall was just a bland character. It didn't help that she was so sanctimonious with her psychobabble tendencies. *Like you said, it was obviously a retread of the whole ordeal with Ellen, except that Ellen provided "greedy Republican jerk" Alex a moral balance. |

I wonder if people would have liked the Lauren character better if the Ellen character had never been on the show. People then wouldn't always compare her to Ellen.

I never cared for Lauren either. I remember that season premiere (I believe it was) when he first met her for her psychology school project & they got together. I was thinking, why is this person with Ellen's Alex?!

Obviously Ellen and Alex had loads of chemistry but she dumped him like a plate of hot rocks so she could be a dancer.
He had to move on with someone and Lauren seemed like a very loving and supportive girlfriend. So of course he had to cheat on her and dump her! I like their real life love story a lot better.

I really don't care for Courtney Cox anyway!
She was always my least favorite character in Friends! Well her and Matthew Perry! I don't care for him either. Both them in real life and as Monica and Chandler! All four of the others I really like! In real life and their characters on Friends! Esp. David Schwimmer!!! He's a hotty, cutie pie!!! But back to Lauren! Yeah didn't like her! Didn't seem like her and Alex would have dated! Like other posters said. No chemistry!!

I like Cox but she was somewhat stiff onscreen and they really didn't know what to do with those two. At the end he fell out of love with her and it was hard to watch this beautiful woman pine over him like that when she could have any man she wanted. She was TOO good for him in my opinion. He was kind of a narcissist up until the very end. I loved Monica and Chandler and thought they had loads of chemistry. Schwimmer was whiny and attractive at the same time. |

I can deal with whiny men if they are cute! Actually it's kind of endearing I think! ! Yeah IDK what it is about Courtney Cox? I just don't care for her? In anything I've seen her in! Like you said, she's stiff? Kind of comes off cold? Weird ,she's a fellow Gemini and to me doesn't seem like one?

I think she found her groove on Friends though, actually. They wrote to her specific talent for her character being amusingly obsessive and neurotic and she really made it work.
