Orbity is the animated equivalent of cousin Oliver.

I thought he was okay, but then again...I watched The 80's Jetsons before I watched the 60's Jetsons....

I never understood the point of adding Orbity! He if you ask me, was kind of the "Scrappy-Doo" of The Jetsons. It seemed the '80s revival was aiming to be more "kid-friendly" (who was designed to sell more merchandise) than the original '60s episodes.

I love Orbity! He's one of my favorite characters!
Elroy certainly had a fondness for him- though that didn't diminish his love for Astro, as one episode dealt with that. Of course, I also grew up watching the 1980s episodes of "The Jetsons" before seeing any of the 1960s episodes- though those first season episodes may well have been mixed in there. In any case, I just accept him as another character added into the mix and I liked him just fine. Of course, I also like Scrappy-Doo on the "Scooby-Doo" cartoons just fine for that matter (I quite enjoy his appearances) and I don't have any issues with Cousin Oliver on "The Brady Bunch" either or any other such fictional character that seems to get so vilified by fans. (i.e. Jar Jar Binks, Wesley Crusher, etc.) |
