Default What if ABC Family and The CW merged?

I know ABC Family is wanting to change their name to ABCF, but because of Pat Robertson's vice grip on the network, it probably can't happen. I don't know if it still is, but The CW was struggling awhile back. I'm thinking since both ABC Family and The CW have similar shows and demographics, it would make sense for the two networks to merge. ABC Family could take over The CW's spot, they would finally be rid of The 700 Club and Pat Robertson, and I think pairing the programming on both of these networks together could make a potentially great network. What are your thoughts?

The CW is already a product of two networks merging. It didn't work the first time so I don't see how it would work now.

So basically you hate ABC Family's original programming with the exception of an occasional episode of Melissa and Joey?
If the networks ever did merge, which won't happen, then syndicated programming like 8 Simple Rules would vanish.

There is no way a cable network would merge with a broadcast network. It makes no sense whatsoever. For one, they are owned by totally different companies and i can tell you that ABC/Disney is not going to merge their successful cable network with a struggling broadcast net owned by competing companies CBS and Warner Brothers. no way.

As for Pat Robertson, there must be a legal way to get him out of the network right? can't they simply offer him money to sell his stake in the network or ask to pay a fine to get the 700 club off the network?

It to me, would make more sense for the CW and MyNetwork TV (which if I'm not mistaken, was quickly created by UPN/WB affiliates, who were getting lost in the shuffle) to merge. There really isn't a point for MNTV to be around now that SmackDown! (the only thing that was keeping it remotely relevant) has moved to SyFy. Of course, as long as Dawn Ostroff (now that Jeff Zucker is gone from NBC, she is in the running as worst major TV executive) is in charge, I don't see the CW making much improvement. The only way I could logically see a merger happening is if Disney somehow sold the Family Channel to CBS and/or Time Warner.

Do you know what I think would be interesting? An ION and MyNetwork TV merger. Both are pretty pointless and would blend well. For crying out loud, ION only shows 3 series in like 8 or 9 hours!

I don't think The CW will merge with anything. CW/Ostroff will just limp along until they can no longer. And I agree, I don't see a cable and broadcast network merging.

We (my family) used to love CW...not anymore.
The same for ABC family, they were both good at one time but I guess
it's true, all good things must come to an end. Just my families opinion.

I can't imagine that either would benefit from merging.

The only way that I could see something like this make sense or work is if CBS and Time Warner shut down the CW as a broadcast network and became a 24 hour cable channel (assuming that they could get the rights to show old Paramount and Warner Bros. produced films and TV shows).

Post If ABC Family and The CW merge

I hope they put a sitcom block like they did with TBS that would include Home Improvement, Roseanne, Full House, ETC.

ABC Family needs to accept these rebooted TV shows in the future: Popular in 2019, Maybe It's Me in 2021 and Do Over in 2021!

Oh No

Not really...the CW is probably going to fold or merge with MYNetwork.

CBS or Warner Brothers should have more commitment with the CW if they want ratings.
