Candace Cameron Bure got her share of Bob Saget's raunchy comedy while shooting the classic family sitcom 'Full House.' But Bure has a new ABC Family hit show on her hands and an evolved Christian spiritual outlook since her 'Full House' days (her website is titled "Growing in God with Candace").
So let's just say there is not a lot of room for Saget's comedy these days in Bure's life. And Saget understands. "When there is a [comedy] show he tells me, 'I love you, you're invited, but don't come,'" Bure tells PopEater. "He says, 'You're not going to laugh and you're not going to think it's funny.'" "[It's a no go] for me and my husband," she adds, talking about her hubby, former NHL star Valeri Bure. "Bob says he doesn't want to offend me or Val." The actress is busy filming 'Make It Or Break It,' the hit show about gymnastics, which is heading into its second season, and raising three children with Val (proudly without a nanny). So it's not like she has much time to head to comedy clubs. During her 'Full House' days playing oldest daughter D.J. Tanner, Bure thought that hearing such risque talk from her TV dad was "cool." If she had objections, she kept her mouth shut so she could "hang out." "I wasn't shaking my finger saying don't say those things in front of me," Bure says. "I was probably exposed to a whole lot of things I probably should not have been at that age. But I almost felt privileged to hear those kinds of things -- as horrible as it sounds as a mom." "I wouldn't want my kids to hear them." That said, Saget is more than welcome to spend time with the the star's family at their home, which he does often. The comedian has a clean mouth in those situations. "He definitely has a filter when he's around the kids," says Bure. "He's incredibly respectful. But when you're hanging out with him he's not doing his stand-up ... It's when he gets on stage that it's horribly filthy." And at times, there have been tiny slips in front of the kids. "He has slipped," says Bure. "But he's very good at covering things up." She adds: "It doesn't happen often." Amen http://www.popeater.com/2010/07/09/c...-saget-comedy/ |

Well, at least he's giving Candace the heads up before going on these shows and warning her. Plus he doesn't say those things in front of her kids, which is a big plus.

Why the thumbs down on the article? It's great that Bob and Candace are still close. Who cares if she doesn't like raunchy jokes? He's not offended. Why would he be? I don't like to hear them, either.

I think it's great that they have a respectful relationship and that they aren't trying to convert each other.

Yes, it's good that they can put aside their differences and still be friends. Bob Saget's stand-up act is definitely NOT for kids.

I'd hate his comedy, too, but for different reasons. It's because it's really not funny. I don't mind profanity in stand-up comedy acts, but Bob is profane just for the sake of being profane. Rarely does it lead to anything funny.

At least both are able to respect each others opinions while keeping a relationship with each other, despite some differences.

There were a lot of words said on Full House That you never would have heard on Brady Bunch, but I suppose we could say they were both products of their times.

I understand why she doesn't like his comedy, its really dirty and shes a christian woman. I mean if I was a christian housewife... aka one of those women part of the 'mothers of america' group I wouldn't like it either
But I'm not i'm 21 with no kids, and I'm agnostic I just want to go on record to say being christian is ok and I have no problem with it but her brother Kirk is a stupid ignorant ********* don't agree with me? just google 'crocduck' or watch this or this |

I find it kind of sad that Bob Saget has resorted to filth and profanity just to get laughs. I mean I understand wanting to get as far away from your TV alter-ego as possible but to use the example of an actor I grately admire... David Hyde Pierce has been in many plays and so forth and he hasn't resorted to stuff like this. I mean even in his last movie "The Perfect Host" in which his co-star used MANY swear words, I only heard DHP swear once. And that is a movie that is fitting for a lot of swearing.
And look at Jerry Seinfeld. I've seen him perform live twice and he is alsayw completely clean on stage and yet he still makes me laugh so hard my stomach hurts. I totally understand Candice's not liking Bob's comedy and the fact that he doesn't' demonstrate it in her home is kind of a given, to be honest. I mean, that would be horrible for him to do that in front of her kids. As for her mentioning that she liked hearing that stuff when she was younger, I get that. I was the same way. I had a friend in high school who would swear all the time and I thought it was hilarious so I started doing it too. Needless to say that didn't' last long at all. My parents (especially my dad) was NOT amused! |

Well, I like the way that Candace is handling it. With me being a strong Christian, I'd probably would not want to hear Bob's material, either. I have respect for him, though. I work in TV production and worked with him for a reality show he did for A & E. He was nice and respectful. I do agree with one of the posters who says that using profanity for the sake of being funny without originality is just unfunny.

The thing about Bob Saget's comedy is that (from all of the message board comments that I've read about him) is that he's only truly funny just for the pure shock and audacity of seeing the father from a wholesome, family show like Full House letting fly with all kinds of profanity (e.g. his cameo in the film Half Baked). But after you see his act the first time, it really gets stale really fast.
