I wish Lee Meriwether had played Catwoman on tv but she was only in the movie and done a great job as did Eartha Kitt when she took over the role in the 3rd season but Julie Newmar has always been the quintessential Catwoman for me.

I think Lee Meriwether did a great job as Catwoman in the Batman movie. Julie Newmar probably is the fan favorite though.

Well they all have their appeal and I don't think any one is them were "bad".

For me, in terms of really making the role her own, Julie Newmar has to get the nod. Sexy, funny, at times ruthless and at others sympathetic, Newmar's Catwoman is the TV template for the role. Plus she just seemed to be having a ball!

I thought it was awesome when the three of them came together on The TVLand Awards.

I wished I had seen that. All 3 were great in the role.

Default Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt's Catwoman? Same or not?

http://officialfan.proboards.com/thr...-kitt-catwoman

Quote:
So when Eartha Kitt took over for Julie Newmar in season 3 of Batman, was that just a recast or a completely different character?

It has happened in the comics, when someone else besides Selena Kyle is Catwoman. In Batman Beyond comics that is obviously the case, as well as in the regular Batman time line. So could have happened in the 60's series? Throughout the first two seasons, they have teased Catwoman reforming, or "running out of lives."

Could one of those things happened off screen and in between seasons that the first Catwoman disappeared and some other person took up the moniker?

I just can't believe the season 3 Catwoman is the same character we saw in the first two season. Even in the 60's show, Julie Newmar played Catwoman as a very complex character, not only with her feelings for Batman, but someone who only wanted to steal and wanted riches, and had no desire for world domination or really wants to hurt people, I don't think she would ever gas the cities water supply like the Joker tried to do. There was one episode when she was disguiced as an old lady, and after having a converstion with the armor car driver and finding out about his family, she tipped him. I could never imagine the Eartha Kitt Catwoman doing that. She was a pure villain, she teamed up with the Joker and they seemed to be friends, I could imagine Selena Kyle or even the Julie Newmar Catwoman being on good terms with the Joker of all people, maybe an temperary alliance if the situation called for it, but it would be an alliance with someone she finds nothing but disgust.

And don't get me started on the 60's movie with that other actress, that is confusing enough. In my head cannon the season 1 and 2 Catwoman and the season 3 Catwoman are two different characters and it not a simple recast.

In comparison, I see no difference in Frank Gorshein and John Astin's Riddler.

Frank Gorshin was the quintessential Riddler hands down. I love John Astin but, no. Just no.

Julie Newmar was the best of the "Catwomen", IMO.
