I hate to get morbid, but I really wonder how Taxi would've coped with and handled Latka's absence had it received a sixth season (and second on NBC)? Taxi was canceled for good just prior to Andy falling ill, which was around November 1983. Andy would of course, later pass away in May 1984. So that would've covered pretty much, the entire 1983-84 television season.

in 3 year, he will have been gone 40 years. Maybe it's time for him to reveal himself!

Some thought he faked his death. But apparently, he really is dead.

Assuming he really did die on May 16, 1984, he'd probably love that people assumed he was still alive out there somewhere. |

I guess its for the best that the showed ended when it did. I think Andy was diagnosed with cancer at Thanksgiving 1983. So the show and cast would have had to deal with his illness in some way. They would have to explain latka's absence. And find a way to write him out. Would they kill latka off? It would have not been fun to watch.
