I can't wait! I wish I could be there, but it's soooo expensive and frankly, I can't afford anything right now. At least it's nice to know that I was in Whistler last summer so I got to see the luge and bought a few Olympic souvenirs. I wish I had bought more, though! My favorite event is the ice dancing, with Tessa and Scott Virtue, who are from Canada, but I've got everything set to record on my DVR, so I'll be watching most of the Olympics. It will certainly be interesting, since Vancouver and Whistler don't have enough snow and yet Dallas has gotten 14+ inches, not to mention the east coast getting several feet!
Personally I'm happy about the mild winter, but I hope Vancouver and Whistler can make due! I'm ticked that CBC isn't showing any of the games and that NBC has decided to put everything on 3 hour tape delay. Hello.... we're in the same time zone as Vancouver! Just nuts!! Oh well, I hope the athletes do well, and I have to admit I'm not cheering for the Americans in every sport. In ice dancing, of course Tricia and Scott from Canada and in cross country skiing, there is a Peruvian guy who's married to a Seattle woman. I forget his name but they were featured in the paper last week, so I'll be cheering for him. And of course our own Apollo Ono. Anyone seen that Nyquil commercial he's in?

Other than figure skating, I'm not into it that much.

I love the Winter Olympics. I can't believe it's been 4 years already. I hope Apolo Ohno is able to bring home gold again!

I'll be watching different events, but mostly the Canadian men hockey team and short track speed skating.

I'm pretty excited. I live only 40 miles from Vancouver so this Olympics is happening in my back yard. I had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the Olympic Torch as it passed through my home town (Abbotsford) on Sunday evening. There was a celebration at the local stadium on Sunday evening and I went. (along with about 20,000 other folks) After walking around and collecting a few free souvenirs I spotted two parallel lines of police tape running the length of the stadium and realized that was the path the torch would be traveling. So I went and took up a position right by the tape and ended up getting a close up look at the flame as it passed by. I even got my picture in the local paper as the pkotographer snapped a picture of the torchbearer just as he was passing by me. On my way out of the stadium I met one of the torchbearers who had participated in the torch relay. He let me touch and even briefly hold his torch. So yes I'm excited about the Olympics. And since my experience with the torch I feel more connected to the Olympic movement and the Games then I ever have before. GO CANADA GO!!

Dick Ebersol: More than 80% of West Coasters want tape-delayed Olympics
"They want to get home and watch them, and that's why there's a delay on the West Coast," says the NBC exec. Can NBC get big Olympic ratings without a popular figure skater? There's nobody this year to match the popularity of Michelle Kwan or Nancy Kerrigan. PLUS: Advice for NBC. Why can't NBC show the Olympics live to West Coasters? Vancouver, after all, is in the Pacific time zone. |
