Default No Further DVDs?

Warner Bros. said it won't be releasing any more DVDs of the series- how can a show that ran for 10 years, was very acclaimed and the like not see additional seasons released on DVD? Perhaps if WB promoted it well enough, sales would be better on future sets?

I've been watching the first season and living it.

Warner Bros are cheap. They tend to release a season then forget about it, blaming sales or whatever. The problem is the high licensing fees with Murphy Brown. As sad as it is the only chance is to remove the Motown music from the beginning of the episodes to make the costs less for Warner to release the shows.

Default Probably...

that's a whole lotta episodes to remove opening-credit music from; lots of times, the song was integral to the episode, too, so it would be lacking something without that music (though it would be acceptable).

At least we know WB's frugality and laxness isn't limited to its music division. Any wonder it's just about in the toilet?

I really wanted the second season to be released. I bought the first one when it first came out and loved it. I was too young to watch during the original run and had never seen an episode when I bought the DVDs. I really did fall in love with all of the characters of the show especially Corky. Maybe Shout Factory can continue the rest of the series someday like they've done with The Facts Of Life.

Default S02-S10

We absolutely loved the first season of Murphy Brown. Does anyone have S02 through S10 on VHS? Or just S02, S03? We'd cover all costs, but we'd like to follow the on-goings of FYI !

Thanks,
Pal

I don't think Shout Factory or asny other third party company will be releasing further seasons of this show. The expensive music rights would be an even bigger hurdle for a smaller company like that to overcome than it is for the studio. And since the studio is saying the music rights are too expensive for them there is no way a smaller company will be able to make it work.

I liked this show but it doesn't seem to have aged well by the looks of things as it doesn't get as much a plug like Seinfeld or Everybody Loves Raymond does.I didn't think it had a lot of music on it except the theme song but that music was pretty horrid anyway.

I've been wanting the rest of the seasons for quit some time now. This was one of my favorite shows when it was on and it still is. It ran 10 seasons, so it must have been a popular show to stay on that long, so they should release the rest of the seasons. I can understand that with the high cost of the music rights they may not want to release any more seasons and without the music it's just not the same. But, I would still love to see all of the other seasons and not just season 1. I can't find anywhere to watch any other seasons.

Oh no, there was tonnes of songs, from the likes of Carole King, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Cole Porter, and many more.

Just about every episode had some song in it other than the theme song. There was even an episode where Murphy sang with someone, can't remember who since I haven't seen it in years. I do miss this show and wish there was some way to see the other episodes. I wish someone had recorded them when they aired and would make copies.

^ She did a duet with Aretha Franklin on the show that was pretty funny.

If they could only get past season 2 the music rights should stop being as painful.

I checked the opening of all episodes, and seasons 1+2 alone have as many songs in the opening of all episodes (just 1 or 2 episodes without music as opener) as seasons 3-10 had altogether (seasons 9 and 10 didnt even use music in the beginning of episodes).

The key problem w/ a show like Murphy Brown is that it was very reliant on using things that were very topical at the time. I really don't think that jokes about Dan Quayle are going to be as funny today as when he was still Vice President. Murphy Brown is the classic "deader than disco" type of show.

It's a period piece, you would have to have Google running while watching the show to clue you into all the events they discuss.

They say music rights cost too much to continue the series but season 1 had just as much music as the rest of the seasons...if they released season 1 and paid for the music, why not the rest of the series?
