Cool What was the best era of MASH?

I split MASH into three eras: the early years (1-3), the middle years, (4-7) and the later years (8-11). I think the early years are by far the best. The middle years are still pretty good, but I don't care for the later years at all.

Couldn't agree more on the changes through the years. Anyone who has either seen the movie or better yet, read the book will appreciate the fun of the first 3 seasons. The changing of the guard with the loss of Stevenson and Rogers brought a new 'feel' to the writing and direction we were being taken in this series. It went from a light hearted, fun to watch program to a Sunday sermon with Rev. Alda guiding his flock. At least Pvt. Charles Lamb knew when to get out !

First three seasons. I was and still am a huge fan of the movie and like the earlier episodes of the show. I still like the later seasons, but after Radar left, I pretty much lost interest. The only episode that I do like is Dreams, but that's only because I'm a little weird. But other then that, the show lost a lot after Stevenson and Rogers left.

All were good, but I'd say the middle years were best, because they had the best balance between comedy and more serious themes.

I liked the entire series, but seasons 1-3 were the best. The comedy/drama mix was the most effective.

A lot of the comedy came from the tension among the characters in the first few seasons. When the cast changed, that was lost.

First three for me, for sure.
BJ, Potter & Charles were good, but the first three seasons were comedic genius which set the bar high.

The first three are easily the best seasons.

I think from Potter's Arrival to Radar's Departure. Yeah, Col. Blake was a lovable goof but the Swamp Rats as well as Frank+Margaret truly needed someone to corral and referee them as opposed to have someone to walk all over then get righteous when the 'other side' would do the very same thing.
