My Two Dads actually got better ratings at 8:30 PM and far better ratings on Sunday nights —although Murder, She Wrote over at CBS still won its timeslot— but Family Ties used to be the second-highest rated show on TV, so their producers presumably had more clout. That's probably why this show got on the 1988 fall schedule and My Two Dads got held back until mid-season.
