Both weekend, two hour TV blocks were instituions of sorts during the 1990s ("TGIF" started in 1988 actually). "SNICK" had shows such as "Ren and Stimpy", "Clarissa Explains it All", "Roundhouse", "Are You Afraid of the Dark", "The Secret World of Alex Mack", "All That" (the good years), etc. "TGIF" on ABC had "Full House", "Perfect Strangers", "Family Matters", "Boy Meets World", "Step by Step", "Sabrina the Teenage Witch", "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper", etc. Unfortunately, "SNICK" and "TGIF" are no longer actively promoted. To me growing up, "SNICK" and "TGIF" was my "Must See TV."
During later years, the official "SNICK" mascot, the Big Orange Couch, was phased out. Whereas the stars of one particular "TGIF" program rotated in hosting the show while in character. I don't really understand why ABC and Nickelodeon ultimately decided to get rid of this long running blocks (ratings, changing with the times, inability to replace aging, hit shows, etc.). Sure, ABC would briefly bring back "TGIF" several years back, but that was purely an umbrella title. I don't think any of the shows really fit in the original concept of "TGIF" (shows that appealed to families and to a certain extent, tweens). The sitcoms that currently air on the Disney Channel I think, would've been perfect for the old "TGIF." |

I miss Snick, that's what I used to watch growing up. I then remember then switching it to a "Snick House Party" which I thought was ok..then from there it's kind of lost focus, like Nick's schedule.

The two-hour Saturday night Nickelodeon block launched in August 1992, replacing Nick at Nite once a week and provided kids with something to watch on one of the two nights of the week they have free. It also become the home for shows like Clarissa Explains it All, All That and Kenan & Kel. |
