I have always wonder this uestion did Scoot Baio Leave Diagnosis Murder or ws Scoot Baio fired from Diagnosis Murder

If my memory serves me correctly, Victoria Rowell said that he had a problem with the fact that a black woman had a prominent starring role on the show (for the record, Victoria replaced the initial actress, who was white, in the role) and that she was billed higher than him (especially since the producers didn't change the fact that her character was the female lead when they swapped actresses). Methinks he'd read for the part when the original actress was in the role, got the part, and found out after he signed his contract that the role was recast with Victoria. She also mentioned how openly hostile and unprofessional he was to her, though I can't remember whether Baio chose not to renew his contract or was thrown out on the curb.

WOW!!! It seems this guy really is an A**!! I had heard that but wow after what he said about Erin's death and now this!!! I'm seeing what I've heard is true! He really isn't a nice guy!!

Former DM nerd here. After Diagnosis Murder ended, Lee Goldberg, one of the writers, picked up where the show stopped with a short series of novels. (It was a short series because Goldberg began writing "Monk" novels instead.) In one of the books, Jack, Scott Baio's character, came back to the hospital and was interested in Amanda. Amanda asked Jack why he never tried to date her before and he said that he was afraid to. Jack left again and Amanda stayed at the hospital.

At the time when I was reading the novels, I thought that was a weird subplot because Jack and Amanda weren't interested in each other on the show, but it makes sense now why the romance wasn't pursued on the show, after reading what TMC wrote.

I have read several of Lee Goldberg's Monk books and I forgot that he wrote the Diagnosis Murder ones too. I've been meaning to read some of those. I should watch the show more often as well.
