Thumbs up Best Sports TV Theme Music of All-Time

Inspired by a thread on the dbsforums.com:
http://www.dbsforums.com/vbulletin/s...ad.php?t=66983

My favorites:
Major League Baseball:
1. ABC's theme circa 1988-1989

2. The theme from "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." - NBC used
this as their baseball theme music from 1996 through mid-1998.

3. CBS' theme circa 1990-1993 - I recall CBS Radio contiuning the
usage of this particular theme years after CBS lost the TV rights for MLB.

4. NBC's theme circa 1986-1989 - I want to say that they started using
this theme around the time they covered the 1986 World Series. I was
very surprised to hear this theme used on an episode of "The Man Show."

5. NBC's theme circa 1999-2000 - NBC altered a bit when they covered
the 1999 World Series.

6. "Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN Radio" circa 1998-2004.

National Hockey League:
1. ESPN's theme - 1992-93 season (I've I'm not mistaken) on through
the 2003-04 season.

2. Fox's theme - 1994-95 season through the 1998-99 season.

3. NBC's theme - 2005-06 season through the present.

National Basketball Associaion:
1. NBC's theme, "Roundball Rock" - 1990-91 season through the 2001-02
season.

2. CBS' theme circa the 1988-89 season through the 1989-90 season - It
was a reworked (sort of cleanup and/or fleshed-out) version of the
theme that they had been using since about 1983 I believe.

3. TNT's theme circa the 2002-03 season through the present.

4. CBS' theme circa the 1982-83 season through the 1987-88 season.

5. NBC's music during the "Miller Geniune Moments" segments.

6. ESPN Radio's NBA theme prior to ESPN TV gaining the rights
beginning in the 2002-03 season.

7. ABC's theme, "Fastbreak" circa the 2004-05 season through the
present - ABC's music has been fairly unremarkable, especially in
stark contrast to NBC's music and the later years of CBS' coverage.
ABC though has gotten slightly better since the "We've Got Hoops" days.

National Football League:
1. CBS' theme circa 1992-93 - CBS brought the theme back when they got
back the NFL in 1998 but they tweeked the pitches throughout the years
leading up to them adpating the "Posthumus Zone" (which I'm not a fan
of quite frankly) in 2003.

2. CBS' theme circa 1986-89 (AKA, "The Pots and Pans Music")

3. Randy Edelman's theme for NBC circa 1995-1997

4. Fox's theme circa 1994-present

5. The original version of "Heavy Action" (the "Monday Night Football"
theme)

This Week in Baseball - a classic opening and closing

The NFL Today on CBS - Who could forget Brent Musberger's "You are looking live at..."

ABC's Monday Night Football half-time music - with Howard Cosell narrating the highlights

ESPN's NFL Primetime - all of the music they use for the highlights is great

HBO's Boxing Theme

ABC's Wide World of Sports

CBS' College Football Theme

I agree totally. NFL football is THE # 1 sport & that was THE theme song for MNF if not for the entire sport. Are You Ready For Some Football............??

It was/is & always will be the best ever. Hank, Jr. gave a lot of energy to the now classic opening of ABC's MNF!! A lot of people couldn't wait for MNF to just hear the song itself. It got you jacked up for the prime-time showdowns, especially if it was 2 good teams late in the year with playoff implications.

Exactly. That's how I felt. I have never looked forward to football before that nor I have felt that way since it's demise. I miss it.

Way back when in the mid to late 50's, NBC promoted friday night fights from Madison Square Garden in New York. The announcer was Jimmy Powers of the Daily News, and the sponsor was Gillette blue blades, "for the sharpest shave of all". To be sharp and be on the ball use Gillette blue blades. The music introduction was a bell ringing and music that really got you in the ight mood. I can remember Powers very well. Two guys could be standing in the center of the ring, pawing each other, or clutching and Powers spoke as if this was Dempsey, Tunney. After the fight they televised greatest fights of the century and that was fun. Can still hear the music. The introductions were much longer then, now the intros are short but the commercials long.

1. The ABC Original Monday Night Football Theme,(Not Heavy Action)but with the "Da-Da-Da-Da-Da-Da-Da-Da-Da-Da" from the late 1970's until 1987.

2. Posthumus Zone(I love that song from CBS NFL Today from 2003 until now!)

3. NBC NFL Live song from 1980-1990

4. FOX NFL Song 1994-present
