from tvshowsondvd.com:
"Warner Home Video’s season-one sets of “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “Murphy Brown” and “Night Court,” all released in 2005, sold 6% or less units compared to Warner’s top seller for 2005 — Friends: The Complete Ninth Season." I think that is crap comparing Murphy Brown and Friends dvd sells. I wanted to complete my Murphy Brown and Night Court sets but I guess that will never happen. |

This really stinks. What about me?! We never had Murphy Brown on TV so my only hope to ever see MB AT ALL were the releases on DVD. And now? I will be stuck forever with Season 1! I will never see a pregnant MB, I will never see MB dealing with breast cancer and I don´t know what else I´m missing. That so f***ing stinks!

We don't get more Murphy because it didn't sell as well as Friends?? And the first season of Night Court wasn't even its best one...give these shows a chance WB!

What I don't get is why compare to the top seller? They knew that Fiends was going to be a big seller but that doesn't mean that in order for a show to keep releasing that they need to sell around the same amount of units. I think that they should give MB more of a chance and release the second season. Besides if they want to save money maybe they should just make less copies that way we at least have a little bit of a chance.

There are so many things here to consider when selling this release.
First of all, like many said, they are comparing it with Friends. Both are totally different shows, and deserve completely different treatment. Friends is the most overrated, simpleminded show on television. You put a bunch of friends in a sitcom, and everyone suddenly starts watching it. Murphy on the other hand was a brilliant, well written, crisp show that is completely looked over and forgotten about that deserves better treatment. Second, Warner Bros. released 6 first season sets on the day, and none of them sold very well. This was Warner's biggest mistake. All 6 shows I enjoyed watching, but I couldn't afford to spend around $130 on all 6 shows, so I had to choose 3 of them to buy now, and 3 to buy later. This is probably the case with most people, which would tell us why Murphy Brown didn't sell up to standards. If they would have released season 1 on its own, seperate day, then it probably would've sold much better. Basically, all I want is a second season. I've watched all 22 first season episodes more than 15 times each, and I'm still not bored cause its such a great show. Bring on season 2! |

I would love to see a complete series set (in the same vein as the "Get Smart" release). I never watched Murphy during it's initial run and despised it when they put it on Lifetime, but I finally got into it on Nick-at-Nite and I wish I could see it much more often than it's being shown (which is never). |

Edit: There's now an Amazon page where you can sign up to be notified if/when Season 2 becomes available. That also helps let Warner Bros. know that people want it, so it's another option for those who still want future seasons. I agree. and how about comparing "Who's the Boss" sales to "Seinfeld." In all of these scenarios, the "top-selling" DVD sets were of far more recent, popular shows. So of course they are bound to sell more. It would be far more logical, to compare the cost of producing the sets to their sales and profit from those sets. |

I wonder if this has a lot to do w/ the perception that Murphy Brown is too dated (w/ it's frequent references to then real life current events/pop culture) as well as music licensing issues (since Murphy Brown didn't have a traditional opening theme, but instead used Motown songs).

I used to watch this show every chance I got, whether first-run or in syndication. Fan of Faith Ford. Anyway there must be a lot more people in my age group with disposable income that would support more releases. This series was big, I mean high-profile. TMC makes excellent points but having 1 season out gives hope that some company will step in and produce more.
