Post A Debate Over College Football

This is sort of a dead zone in sports right about now with the NBA, NFL, and NHL (then again, how many Americans are die hard hockey fans) just ended or ane in the mist of starting training camps again. This comes while Major League Baseball is simply in the middle of things as we speak. So to put things in another perspective, there are still some other sports to talk about.

And no, I'm not talking about country club sports like golf and tennis. Or sports that are seemingly designed spefically for white trash (no offense) like wrestling or NASCAR. So to put things in another way, I would like to talk about certain factors in college football.

NCAA Division 1 Football is really the only major sport in the country that doesn't have a geniune championship competition on the field. And no, I'm not going to bring up the totally manufactured BCS (The Big Crappy Series). So to serve as a little debate so to speak, here is one proposal for a new post-season system:
1. Take the top 12 ranking teams at the end of the season for the playoff (sort of like in the NFL).

2. The top four teams get a "bye" for the first round.

3. The first round play-off games would be played roughly around the same period in roughly around early-Mid December.

4. In the process, annual division title games would perhaps, have to be done away with in order to help make the first round play-off games fit.

5. The bowl games that would be used in the first round would be the Sun Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Florida Citrus Bowl, and Gator Bowl. In years that the Fiesta Bowl isn't hosting the National Championship Game, then it would be played in the first round also with Sun Bowl taking its place.

6. The way that the match ups in the first round would be set up so it would have #12 VS #5, #11 VS #6, #10 VS #7, and so forth in this kind of pattern.

7. The bowls that would be used in the second round would be the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Sun Bowl, and Orange Bowl.

8. The same type of pattern for the match ups from the first round would be used in the second round.

9. The site of the National Championship Game would annually rotate with the Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Orange Bowl.

I'll even take in the old system in which the National Champion was decided by just a bunch of newspaper polls when compared to the BCS. At least more of the bowl games would have a better chance of meaning something again.

A playoff is the only way to go.. there is way too much time between the last regular season games and the bowl games.. I like the setup how they do it in NCAA I-AA.

As a matter of fact, if I'm not mistaken, the teams that usually play in the "National Championship Game" my more than likely, get as much as around 40 days of before playing in a game again.

This is basically, a further example and correction/clarification of how the playoff system would be set up:
First Round:
*Peach Bowl-#12 VS #5

*Independence Bowl-#11 VS #6

*Liberty Bowl-#10 VS #7

*Florida Citrus Bowl-#9 VS #8

Second Round:
*Gator Bowl-#8 VS #1

*Cotton Bowl-#7 VS #2

*Sun Bowl-#6 VS #3

*Fiesta Bowl-#5 VS #4

Third Round:
*Sugar Bowl-#4 VS #1

*Orange Bowl-#3 VS #2

National Championship Game:
*Rose Bowl-#2 VS #1
