Don't know if this is the proper place for this thread but I was in a "hard to find records" store today ordering old school stuff and there was a Soul Train compilation CD with songs from artists who performed on that show.
For those who actually were around in the 70's, did you watch SOUL TRAIN? I loved it. I watched it every Saturday. It was nothing like it is now. It was DA BOMB!!!!!! AWESOME!! FUNKY!!! HOT!!! I miss Don Cornelius. I miss watching the original Soul Train dance line. I remember dancing to all the songs. That was one of the best things about Saturdays. I had ballet classes to go to that day but made sure I was back home by the time the show was on. I hear that song by MFSB who were responsible for the tv's famous theme song. I have that song on my computer player and also on some burned CD's. Who else has memories of this awesome funky show??? |

I started watching it in the late 80's. I was able to find 2 eps of Soul Train 5 months ago from 1972 and 1975. One ep has Michael Jackson doing the classic "ROBOT DANCE" and the other one has Ralph Carter from Good Times singing-"When You're Young and in Love"-lol |

I haven't watched an entire epsiode of Soul Train since Don Corneilus stepped down as host, around 1994 or 1995. That was when I really discovered the artists' live performances were lip-synced. I prefer the real thing, I would feel kinda cheated that the live performances weren't actually 100% live. Even since he stepped down, I pretty much interest in that show, I'll a couple of minutes every know and then.

Speaking of the show, I went to a yard sale and I bought a record called "Soul Train: Hits That Made It Happen", a collection of 70's soul classics like "Freddie's Dead" by Curtis Mayfield, "Back Stabbers" by the O'Jays, "Everybody Plays the Fool" by the Main Ingredient, "The Good Foot" by James Brown, "Me & Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul and so much more. The record is in fair condition and it has a couple of scratches. This was from 1973 on the Adam VIII label. You should check it out.

One of my faves is William DeVaughn's "Be thankful for what you got" "Diamond in the back, sunroof top, digging the scene with a gangsta lean, oooooh ooooh ooooh..." |

Soul Train Haven't been the same since Don Cournelus left in the mid 90's now they be having people on there you never heard of. The dancing sucks, they don't dance like the did back in the day. The people also don't have any since of fashion. Back in the day you had to know how to dance to get on Soul Train.

The acquisition includes every Soul Train episode, but BET hopes to grow the brand founded by Don Cornelius. |
