Goof in "movie Tonight" - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Hi all,
This is about the classic 1974 or '75 M*A*S*H episode entitled "Movie Tonight." The camp gathers in the mess tent and attempts to watch the movie "My Darling Clementine." Their copy of the film repeatedly breaks. And, as Klinger works on getting it running again, they all sing "Gee Mom, I Wanna Go Home," several people impersonate Father Mulcahy, Margaret sings a song and Radar does a couple of movie star impressions. Something has always bothered me about Radar's impersonation of John Wayne, and I've finally figured out what it is: He does the famous "McLintock!" monologue "But, I'm not gonna hit ya. No, I'm not gonna hit ya . . ." Then, (thowing a punch) "Like Hell I'm not!" The problem is -- the movie "McLintock!" didn't come out until around 1963, and naturally could not have even been imitated, during the Korean War. (Oops)

Or maybe Radar's "radar" was really workin' good that night and he sensed it from the future

A lot of gaffes like that in the series, for instance, Radar's comic books. Most of them are issues of Avengers or Spider-Man, which were created in the 1960's. The characters, especially Hawkeye, constantly mention Godzilla, when that movie didn't come out in the states until 1955 or so. There are others, but these are the most glaring.

two more are: in one episode, Hawkeye sings part of "The Mickey Mouse Club" theme (M-O-U-S-E) and that show didn't start until after the Korean war, sometimes, the "Bonzo" & the "Godzila" movies are mentioned, but these weren't made until after the Korean war.

While Gozilla is only after the Korean War ends I thought Bedtime for Bonzo was made in the late 40's or early 50's.

nope, it was made in the mid 50s. (about 54 or 55)

In the ep "Mad Dogs and Servicemen", the Radar's penfriend mentions her favourite songs in her letter, one of them being "Pretty Thing" by Bo Diddley - which wasn't recorded until the mid-1950s.

They also had shown "The Blob" and it wasn't made until after the war.

They'res tons of mistakes in that show, if you pay attention.

How about Col Potter switching Religions !. in the beginning he was Methodist, but somehow switched to presbyterian. Or was it the other way around....

Didn't Henrys wife also have 2 different names ?

Hi again, all,
How about Col. Potter, in one of his earlier episodes, indicating that he was from Nebraska, and then for the rest of the series, he lived in Missouri?

Also, in an early episode, Hawkeye implied that he was from Vermont . . . before he became a Maine resident.

And, Hawkeye made more than one remark through the series, which indicated that his mother was alive -- like telling his father in a letter, "Say hi to Mom for me," or something like that. But later on, he said more than once that she had died when he was a kid.

(I suppose it's possible that "Say hi to Mom for me" could mean that he wanted his father to relay a greeting the next time he visited his wife's grave. But, I think that would be too much of a stretch.)

I've always liked to think that the Maine/Vermont thing with Hawkeye could of been, that his father was vacationing in Vermont, since he says "Vermont" in a christmas episode. And when he says to his father, in the same episode, "say hi to Mom & Sis for me" maybe he meant pictures of hi mother and sister that were in his living room, or something. Or, like you said, his Moms grave.
