Default "All That" History and Facts

After this classic "All That" week, it got me wondering about why the show went through all the cast changes, and when everything exactly happened. So I researched, and compiled this. I hope this is accurate. Feel free to add.

Season 1 - 1994-1995

-they considered 2005 as the 10 year anniversary, because only 2 episodes aired in 1994
-the introduction included them jumping, and in random places (lori beth on a mountain/cliff thing, alisa and katrina in an alley)

Season 2 - 1995-1996
-same cast. no big changes.
-Angelique's last season

Season 3 - 1996-1997
-Amanda Bynes joins as Angelique Bates leaves.
-The introduction is still the same.
-Katrina Johnson grows really tall during this season.

Season 4 - 1997-1998
-This was probably the most memorable season.
-Alisa Reyes and Katrina Johnson both leave the series
-Danny Tamberelli, Christy Knowings, and Leon Frierson all join.
-I remember them really "pimping" the new season because of the cast changes.
-During this time, Danny was known for his role in "Pete and Pete".
-The introduction is noticeably different as now they are going down a red carpet, and it's black and white. --During this year, the show "Figure It Out" also started.
-Also something worth mentioning... they knew Lori Beth was leaving, to do the Steve Harvey show, so during this season they brought in 3 people -- Zack McLemore, Tricia Dickson and Victor Cohn-Lopez -- (i honestly only remember the Tricia girl), but at most, they only lasted 4 episodes (they all appeared at different time frames of season 4... and in the introduction, they weren't walking down the red carpet. It just said "Featuring ______" at the end.

Season 5 - 1998-1999
-Same introduction as season 4
-Lori Beth Denberg leaves the show.
-Mark Saul and Nick Cannon join the show
-During this season, there is talk of Amanda Bynes doing her own show
-This will be Kenan and Kel's last season, as their duty at Nick is over. Their own show "Kenan and Kel" will end on December 31, 1999.

Season 6 - 1999-2000
-AKA. The downfall.
-The introduction has them in front of a very bright-colored background, looking into the camera like a mirror.
-This is the last season of goodness, and even I sensed it back then. Everyone was getting old, and they even started "Best of ______" episodes because of the downfall.
-Amanda Bynes has 2 shows -- this and "The Amanda Show", so the Amanda skits are declining in number because of this, and the fact that she is no longer "the young one". I even found an Amanda fansite with caps, and Amanda looks terribly mature this season to be doing "Ask Ashley"
-Kenan and Kel are gone
-Gabriel Iglesias, the big Latino, joins the cast for only 1 season.
-Dan Schneider began to take over the show more, and Kevin Kopelow left.
-This is the last season for all of them - as Amanda continues "Amanda Show", and the others go to nowheresville. It's interesting to mention also that Josh Server had the longest run on the show, season 1-6.

Season 7 - 2002 (there was, I assume, a break in 2001... I remember thinking that it was cancelled)
-A whole new cast... and yeah. ek.

--
Overall, "All That" has a huuuge history. They should make an "E! True Hollywood Story" Because, though it's a Nickelodeon series, it has a lot of behind the scenes action, which to many, is interesting.

If they ever made a documentory about All That, and behind the sence stuff. I want to know how the other original castmembers felt when Kenan and Kel got their own show. Did it drive a wedge between Kenan, Kel, and the other castmembers?

It is human nature to be jealous. Facts are Josh Server and Nick Cannon are the only All That castmembers to guest star on "Kenan and Kel." Josh the only original castmember to guest star to "Kenan and Kel." Also shortly after Kenan and Kel got their own show, Angelique left the show. And one year later Katrina and Alisa left as well.

I always remember Angelique Bates, as simply, the one who left first, because it was the first cast change, and I remember me thinking "where is she?" Her being jealous of Kenan and Kel could be true, as I would be jealous as well.

Josh Server seemed pretty happy with anything that went on, and I also find it interesting that the season they launched "The Amanda Show", the classic All That stopped.

"Kenan and Kel" getting their own show. If the other castmembers were jealous. I don't blame them. Not only is it human nature, also you probably have their parents and agents whisper in their ears "You should get your own show."

I don't blame Kenan and Kel for taking their own show, when Nickelodeon offered it to them. And I don't blame Nickelodeon if they saw something in Kenan and Kel and decided to give them their own show.

It is one of those situations when no one is wrong. Though I do fault the producers for not handling the situation better, if there was jealous among the cast.

The producers of "Kenan and Kel" also produced "All That." If I was them, I would have gone to the other 5 castmembers of All That, and told them "We are giving Kenan and Kel their own show. It is no way an insult on your preformance on the show. We value everyone's contribution to All That." Don't just give Kenan and Kel their own show, and expect everything in the All That cast to be perfect.

Look at what happened amoung the "Not Ready For Prime Time Players" on Saturday Night Live (Bill Murry and Chevy Chase backstage fight, Belushi's antics. etc.) when one of them had success. Most of them were jealous. And those were grown adults. We are talking about young adults or kids.

Though I never understood why Amanda did both her own show and All That for a year. Unlike "Kenan and Kel", it was a sketch show. I could see Kenan and Kel both shows to work on different types of craft. Sketch comedy and situational comedy. But with Amanda, it was two sketch shows.

Actually the new season started in 2001. I mean the revamp.

Becase that little devil-bitch Jamie Spears came in 2002.

Also it should be up to season 9 or 10 right? But who cares about those seasons? They suck!

I remember Kenan leaving first on the show and Kel still being there but shortly after Kel left the show too.

Season 5 was when it all went downhill for me because first Lori Beth left then I remember Kenan and after Kel.

So it's been sucking since season 5 for me.

I remember feeling so torn & lost when Lori Beth left and then Kenan & then Kel!

I remember wondering why Josh never left and then I remember think after seeing the revamp "they suck!"

I really hope we get season sets of All That! Those rumored best of sets are a hoax as it comes from TVTome & there's no word of any of it at TVShowsonDVD.com or Amazon either

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/showinfo.cfm?showID=627

VOTE FOR SEASON SETS!

I found an old Nickelodeon press release promoting the new All That. It states that the 7th season premere was in January 2002.

http://www.viacom.com/press.tin?ixPressRelease=80003683

Santa Monica, CA - Jan. 15, 2002 -- Nickelodeon's longest-running live action series, All That, revs up for its seventh season with an all new format, including a weekly celebrity host and an all new kid cast. The fun begins Saturday, January 19 in the newly revamped SNICK (Saturday Night Nickelodeon) line-up at 8p.m. (ET/PT) when All That introduces a fresh-faced new cast performing original, over-the-top sketches, a celebrity host each week and musical performances by today's hottest hip-hop, rap and pop artists.

"All That has become a pipeline for showcasing and developing some of today's most talented young comedians," said Kevin Kay, Executive Vice President of Production, Nickelodeon. "We celebrate its legacy as the only sketch-comedy series for kids featuring kids by bringing it back for another season revitalized with even more energy and more celebrity guests."

A new, weekly celebrity host format features a star from television, film, music or sports opening the show and participating in some of the sketches. Headlining this year's All That host roster are Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina The Teenage Witch; Drive Me Crazy), Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle), skateboarding guru Tony Hawk, David Arquette (See Spot Run; Scream; Scream 2 & 3) musical artists Britney Spears and Aaron Carter, Will Friedle (Boy Meets World), Kenan Thompson (Good Burger; Kenan & Kel), Amanda Bynes (Nickelodeon's The Amanda Show) and Christina Vidal (Nickelodeon's Taina). Star-studded musical performances this season include Britney Spears, P. Diddy, Usher, Nelly Furtado, Mandy Moore, Aaron Carter, Tyrese, LFO, Christina Milian, City High, Samantha Mumba and Willa Ford.

"We are really excited about this season's changes and especially our dynamic new cast," said Brian Robbins, Creator/Executive Producer of All That. "Their level of talent lives up to the high standards set in previous seasons. We're proud to present the next generation of stars from the show that has a history of breaking some of today's hottest talents."

The fresh crop of talented young comedic actors joining the cast this season are: 13-year-old Kyle Sullivan (Malcolm in the Middle, Tuesdays With Morrie); 13-year-old Bryan

Hearne (Paramount's feature film Hardball, Third Watch); 15-year-old Lisa Renee Foiles

(Even Stevens); 14-year-old Jack DeSena; 16-year-old Giovonnie Samuels (Boston Public); 13-year-old Shane Lyons (E.R.) and 14-year-old Chelsea Brummet.

Over the years, All That has emerged as a pipeline for young, up-and-coming comedic artists including Kenan Thompson (Kenan & Kel, Good Burger, Felicity), Kel Mitchell (Kenan & Kel, Good Burger, Mystery Man), Amanda Bynes (The Amanda Show, Universal's upcoming feature film Pay or Play ) and Nick Cannon (host of Nickelodeon's TEENick block). Some A-List celebrities featured on the show in previous seasons include Lauren Hill, Busta Rhymes, Kobe Bryant, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Sugar Ray, Mya, Brandy, Chris Farley, John Leguizamo and Shaquille O'Neal.

In this season's premiere episode, celebrity guest Frankie Muniz hosts and plays himself in a recurring sketch called "Sugar & Coffee" featuring fast-talking TV show host Kaffy (Foiles) and her sidekick Buzz (Sullivan) who over-indulge in coffee and sugar. Other segments include: "Comin' At Ya," a skit blending gooey concoctions such as cherries, worms and mustard; "Rate the Pain," the ultimate human pain tolerance test; "Live: From The Toilet," featuring a bizarre take on celebrity performances and "Toy ER," a kid-parody of the TV hit "ER." Musical artist Aaron Carter performs. Future episodes will feature "Vocabulary With Lisa," a ventriloquist-focused skit featuring the dummy Oswald and "Harry Bladder," a spoof of the popular Harry Potter children's books series.

The highly acclaimed, half-hour sketch-comedy series -- praised by critics for its pint-sized Saturday Night Live comedic quality -- has successfully anchored Nickelodeon's SNICK programming block since its debut in 1995. Since then, All That has been the highest rated program among Kids 6-11 in its time slot. Each week, 4.3 million kids watch All That.

Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins of Tollin Robbins Productions created All That. Tollin, Robbins and Dan Schneider serve as Executive Producers. Returning to All That at the creative helm as showrunner is Dan Schneider, one of the creative forces behind the show's original first four seasons, as well as Kenan & Kel and The Amanda Show.

I read somewhere (I don't remember if it was here or at imdb.com shortly after the reunion show aired that "All That" is essentially the Nickelodeon version of "SNL" just like "Roundhouse" was the Nick counterpart to "In Living Color" and "You Can't Do That On Television" the Nick counterpart to "Laugh-In." Obviously, Kenan Thompson is now on "SNL" and Chris Farley was actually on "All That" once in a "Randy & Mandy" sketch with Kenan.

Basically, after the "golden age" of "SNL" (1975-1980) ended with the remaining original cast members & Lorne Michaels leaving, "SNL" hit a serious dry spell (beginning with the notorious 1980-1981 season). The 1980-1981 season I believe was cut in half due to a writers strike even after Dick Ebersol was brought in to salvage it.

The 1999-2000 season of "All That" was cut in half (as many long standing cast members like Josh Server, Amanda Bynes, Danny Tamberelli, Christy Knowings, Leon Frierson, and writer/on screen stage hand Kevin Kopelow were on their way out) as Dan Schneider (I guess representing Dick Ebersol to Kevin Kopelow's Lorne Michaels) was ultimately brought in to salavage it. Some argue that the early 1980s "SNL" survived mostly on the talents of Joe Piscopo & Eddie Murphy. Personally, I would suggest that the post-"Golden Age All That" is surviving mainly on the talents of Lisa Foiles & Kyle Sullivan.

Actully you could divide the first 6 seasons into two eras.

Classic Era - season 1-3

Danny Tamberelli Era - season 4-6

The 4th season had the most dramatic cast changes in the golden age of All That. Season 4-6 was good, but season 1-3 was the best era of the show in my opinoin.

I got to give some props to Amenda and Christy. The last two seasons of the old All That they had to carry the load, because there were the only two girls on the cast.

Think about it, in the first season there was 4 girls and 3 guys in the cast. By season 5 there was 7 guys and 2 girls in the cast. Not only that, but Amanda also had her own show. Which was more work for her, and like someone said before, she appeared in less sketches, which meant more work for Christy.

Earlier somebody mention Joe Piscopo. Did you know he and All That producer Dan Schneider were compared to each other. In an episode of Married with Children, when Al failed to get on a game show. The host said "You rated an all time low in personality. .... It was somewhere between Joe Pscopo and the fat kid (Schneider) that played on Head of the Class."

Here is another All That fact.

The pilot episode of All That, which featured musical guests TLC preforming the hit song "What About Your Friends", Baggin Saggin Barry, Earboy, Katrina the bouncer, Leap Froggy Frog among others, first aired as a Nickelodeon special on April 16 1994.

It would debut as a weekly series on December 24, 1994. The pilot epsiode was not reaired on Nickeldeon until the end of the first season, and aired as a "lost episode."

Very interesting. Nickeldeon is a very unique network.. or, atleast it was.
