Question Is Jim Nabors gay?

Hey, I heard this thing (it was a clip from a radio show poking fun at Jim Nabors) and they said he was gay. Is this true? If it is, go him! I'm not a homosexual, but go for him for being open!

I think that when he was younger he may have been gay, but I think that as he got older and matured I think he took a turn and started to take interest in women. I think that he is gay though.

Jenny and Andrew,
All it takes is one person to tell somebody any silly thing . . . and he tells two friends . . . and they each tell two friends . . . and *they* each tell two friends. And pretty soon, you've got a rumor that's so widespread it's totally out of control, and largely accepted as fact . . . unfortunately, sometimes even hurting people in the process.

The story about Jim Nabors and Rock Hudson supposedly being in love and "getting married" started as a joke many years ago. Despite BOTH of them publicly claiming through the years that there was no truth to it, a surprising number of people still believe it TO THIS DAY -- nearly three decades later!! Sadly, Rock Hudson's death from AIDS paved the way for an even "funnier" widespread joke having to do with Jim Nabors' name. Of course, it seems Jim's liver failure several years back which caused him to wither away to almost nothing and to *almost* die, led some people to the assumption that he was just one more "queer" who had contracted AIDS, too.

One of my dearest family members, who is now in her fifties, just last year became a "Gomer" fan for the first time through TVLand's reruns, after avoiding the show for all those years for that very reason (that rumor/myth). She's just now finding out what she had deprived herself of all that time, and wondering how she could have missed such a delightful show and such a sweet, loveable character.

By the way, should you ever take a survey on whether or not Jim Nabors is gay, put this fellow down for a "NO."

Question

Hey,
No disrespect, but how do you know that Jim Nabors isn't gay? And no one said that he had a relationship with Rock Hudson... actually, I didn't know who Rock Hudson was until a few days ago, and I didn't hear anyone mention Jim Nabors. Besides, does it really matter if he was gay or not? I'd still watch Gomer Pyle and listen to his music... who wouldn't?

GOMER PYLE is one of my favorite series and Jim Nabors is such a talented performer.

This may be in bad taste, but someone told me this joke recently -- JIM NABORS AND ROCK HUDSON GAVE BIRTH TO A CHILD. WHAT DID THEY NAME THE BABY? ------------ ROCK PYLE.

Hi all,
Well, it seems we're all in agreement that "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C" was a wonderful show, and Jim Nabors is an enormously talented performer . . . regardless of what his sexual preferences might be.

I, personally, simply choose not to believe that story. I have no proof, one way or the other. It doesn't matter, anyway.

I don't know about Gomer, but I would bet that Corporal Boyle was gay.

I also heard the joke that when Rock Hudson discovered he had AIDS,Jim Nabors' words were,"Surprise, surprise, surprise!"

I don't know one way or another about Jim Nabors-but I do know that there was a gross rumor about he and Hudson that started years ago and is still believed.I do not want to think Jim Nabors is gay-and it's a darn shame that so many people still want to spread these rumors and slanders!

Question

Ok, did we all not just say that being gay was ok and that no matter if we was or not, we'd still like the show? Besides, absolutely nothing is wrong with being gay! We're not bashing homosexuals in anyway. I just wanted to clarify a rumor I heard, and people just take it that I want to know so I can "find out if he's a queer or not" No, that's not the reason. I heard a rumor and wanted the truth. I don't care if right now I found out my own momma was a lesbian, I would still love her. So, don't make it sound like we are homophobics.

Jenny,
Yes, we've pretty much all indicated that we'd still like the show anyway. And no, we're no bashing homosexuals here.

So, what in the world are you talking about? Who's sounding "homophobic"?

Well, now that I look back, maybe homophobic wasn't the word I was looking for. Maybe the word I really wanted was defensive. Maybe because Ricky was so defensive about Jim Nabors being (or not being) a homosexual.
