Well it's official, Trek fans.
UPN lowered the boom on the cast and crew of Enterprise yesterday; when the 4th season ends in May, it's the end of the line for the latest Star Trek series. I can't say I'm surprised the show got cancelled (it's been on the verge of cancellation for two seasons now) but I am saddened by the news. For the first time in 18 years there will be no Star Trek series on TV in the fall. Not to mention that this is the first time a Star Trek Series has been cancelled since the original series was canned. Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager all completed seven season runs. It's a shame Enterprise had to break the streak, but IMO, she show never really had the same spark as the other series. Granted, there were some outstanding episodes, but the show never really clicked for me. Ah well, maybe in a few years they'll try again with another series.

yes; it is a ahame, but I can't say I'm surprised. Like the first poster said, the show was good, and it CERTANELY improved from the first season (the episode "Carbon County" comes painfully to mind
) but, at times it seemed like they were over using the same premise: someone, something, or some alien race is threatning the Enterprise or the crew or earth.

I love Star Trek and have seen everything it has ever done.
In my opinion, Enterprise was not a good series for a lot of reasons. I don't care for Scott Bakula, and I disliked him in this role. I don't like his acting or a lack thereof. The "catsuit" that the actress who played the Vulcan, that is really sexist. Linda Park is sexy, where was her catsuit? The annoying British arsenal officer who always screws up. I just did not like any of the characters except for Phlox and that cute Beagle dog. The storyline so we're not new, just rehashes. The whole Third Season Xindi story arc was a nightmare. Then there were the oatmeal faced people from the future, with the mysterious "future guy", just absolute dreck. Actually by the fourth season, the show got a bit better and I think found its feet somewhat, but most of us gave up on it by then. Their ratings were half in the fourth year as the first. Remember also, that Star Trek shows outside of TNG never had high ratings, but enough serious and causal fans of the show would make the show profitable. Enterprise lost that core of viewers, which really means that it was crap. What could have been a FANTASTIC show under a new set of people who are familiar with the show and canon, and different actors altogether with the exception of Linda Park and John Billingsley, and it might have been something. Personally, I would have made Jeffrey Combes the Captain, and give H.G. Hertzler (who played Martok on DS9) a role. That would have been a cool show. Just my opinion. |
