Default Best of the West

This was a comedy from the early 80's and I don't think it lasted very long. It was set in the frontier west. My sister liked this show and she was no western lover, so this had to be an offbeat comedy show if my sister liked it. She never liked anything!! Anybody remember this show at all?

I remember the show, remember really liking it but I don't remember any specifics about the characters. It was a short lived show, starred Joel Higgins from Silver Spoons.

This show was great. I watched it every week. It was a spoof of the western genre. This is one short lived show that should have a DVD release.

It was a great show with a great cast. Joel Higgins, Carlene Watkins, Meeno Peluce, Leonard Frey, Tracey Walter, Christopher Lloyd, Tom Ewell, etc. And some of the guest stars were Richard Moll, Slim Pickens, Andy Griffith, Al Lewis, John Randolph, Barbara Babcock, Chuck Conners, Betty White, etc. It should have lasted longer then it did.

I still remember the running gag, where no matter how hard Watkins swept the floor, there was still dirt on it. That was because the cabin had a dirt floor.

I remember watching this show when it was on, and LOVING it! I was so dissapointed when it was canncelled. I remember, it was on ABC and, I THINK, was from the creators of "Taxi".

I'd also like it if it came to DVD.

This video talks about ABC's scheduling of the pilot episode of Best of the West. It wasn't shown on the West Coast. Half the country couldn't watch it.

Joel Higgins flew to Miami to talk about the show with Howard Cosell during the halftime of the game.

From the description:

In a 1981 NFL week 2 game on Monday Night Football between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Miami Dolphins, the geniuses at ABC, for some inexplicable reason, forgot that a game takes three hours to complete. And when ABC programmed their schedule around the game, particularly around the new sitcom Best of the West, and forgot to take this matter into account, it created a giant controversy that resulted in a catastrophic failure for their network.

Best of the West - The Complete Series was released on a manufactured-on-demand DVD by CBS Home Entertainment on September 18, 2017. It appears to be out of print on Amazon, but maybe copies turn up from time to time.

Episode 468--Best of the West

Quote:
It's a western! It's a comedy! It has legends including Joel Higgins, Meeno Peluce, and Leonard Frey! And occasionally Christopher Lloyd! It can't fail! There is one small problem--half the nation didn't see its first episode because of football. Maybe it would have truly been the Best of the West if the western half of the country saw it.
