Tim McCarver has (for better or for worse) become the unofficial national television voice of Major League Baseball. He first got noticed (at least on a national level as opposed to his work with the Mets) as a field reporter for ABC's coverage of the 1984 National League Championship Series. McCarver soon "replaced" the fired Howard Cosell as the top color commentator (alongside play-by-play man Al Michaels and fellow anaylst Jim Palmer) on ABC.

He has worked for just about all of the major television networks since the early 1980s (with the exception of NBC). McCarver has to date, helped announce 15 World Series (the first in 1985) as he surpassed Curt Gowdy for the most by a television announcer.

I picked Joe Buck in the poll but my ultimate favorite were the Mets broadcasts with Gary Thorne. Listening to those two call a game made it fun watching the Mets on tv.
