Sitcoms/Episodes That May Never Be Rebroadcast - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What I mean is these shows will in all likelyhood, never be seen on television (much less DVD) again because of the controversy and/or lingering tragedies behind them.

"My Sister Sam" obviously because of the high profile of Rebecca Schaeffer's death. It should be noted that the show had already been canceled (as opposed to her death automatically forcing the end of the show) for about a year before Schaeffer got killed. I believe that the USA Network aired "My Sister Sam" for a while (even airing episodes that CBS left on the shelf) even after Schaeffer's death.

"Chico & the Man" - The stain of Freddie Prinze Sr's much publicized suicide is hard to overlook. I read that towards the end of Prinze's stint on the show (much less his life altogether) the effects of his apparent drug abuse were quite obvious (i.e. weight loss and phoning in his performances). TV Land though, did air "Chico & the Man" for a while several years back.

The John Ritter episodes of "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" for the simple fact that we are going to be fully aware of the death of Ritter's character (due to Ritter's real life untimely death).

"The Royal Family" - Even though "The Royal Family" was very short-lived, this show is still remembered based on the simple fact this was Redd Foxx's final project. Redd Foxx as you may know, died of a heart attack while rehearsing on "The Royal Family" set. TV Land though, did show "The Royal Family" (complete with the Redd Foxx episodes) several years back.

Gordon Jump's guest appearance as a child molester on "Diff'rent Strokes." I guess this is because it became arguably the most infamous "Very Special Episode" in sitcom history.

The "Not Without My Anus" episode of "South Park" (if you want to consider it to being a sitcom) featuring Terrance & Philip.

I don't think ANY of the shows you mentioned would never air again because of the reasons you mentioned.

First of all, "Chico and the Man" has aired recently and I believe 'The Royal Family" was on TV Land for a short time? (I could be mistaken on that)

I'm sure the John Ritter episodes of "8 Simple Rules" will air when it hits syndication. ABC isn't airing them probably because they want the audience to focus on the new format and characters but believe me, the Ritter episodes will eventually be on again.

and I don't see why those controversies would make them not come on DVD either... there have been controversial things around other shows and movies that have been seen countless times so I don't see your point...

This list makes no sense actually. Like Riff said, My Sister Sam was on Goodlife as recently as just over a year ago and is rumored to be coming to DVD, Chico and the Man was on TV Land for a few years and is NOW airing on Goodlife and is rumored to be coming to DVD. 8 Simple Rules will most likely make syndication on locals, so you WILL see the John Ritter years -- why wouldn't it air? It is very likely to show up on DVD as well.

The Redd Foxx show is too short lived, but TV Land could air it on specials. I'm not sure how likely a DVD release would be for this.

Gordon Jump's appearance on Diff'rent Strokes has never been skipped -- not even when Nick@Nite/TNN aired the show. The show is on about three locals right now, they ALL air the episode.

Now, something that REALLY doesn't air, at least NOT on TV Land, is the Three's Company episode "A Charming Stranger." I'm not getting into twhy that is skipped, but locals did air it this past year when they had rights to the show. Locals do not air the show currently. And this episode for sure will make the season 8 DVD in a few years.

So, in essence nothing is going to be never seen again.

Hmmm that does make no sense, I mean airing these episodes/shows would be a tribute to those actors, I mean that would be like networks refusing to air Diff'rent Strokes because of Dana Plato's death

I don't see why they'd leave that a South Park episode unaired...

One that I think that'd be rarely shown is the episode of AITF when Edith gets raped (or almost)

What about Maude's abortion episode? Was that ever reaired when the show went into syndication? I know Maude isn't in syndication currently. Also abortion is a very taboo topic in TV to this day so that leads me to believe it was probably ignored during its syndicated run. Does anyone know for sure? Pav?

None of these shows has every stopped airing or had episodes skipped. the only show I know that had an episode stations won't air is Cagney and Lacey episode 63 The Clinic and that was only when it first aired back in 1985.

I know this is a moot point now, but at one point, "The Puerto Rican Day" of Seinfeld was banned for the scene where Kramer inadvertently burns the Puerto Rican Day flag. It was only shown originally on NBC once, and didn't appear in syndication until four or five years later, once the controversy had died down. I think they've taken it out again recently, but I'm not sure.

I know it doesn't really count as a sitcom, but I doubt the old Mr. Magoo cartoons ever get replayed on television, as there were a lot of stereo-typical characters that were portrayed.

TV Land has aired it, and I'm sure the locals have, as well.

What gets me is that TV Land feels they have to remove "Herman's Peace Offensive" from The Munsters.

I think, maybe "Chico and the Man" would be more popular in reruns if Freddie Prinze hadn't died but we'll never know.

I'm surprised TMC didn't put "NewsRadio" on the list. Since one of the cast members was murdered during the show's run. For the record, I feel the show should be rerun, I'm just saying I figured that would have been listed in the original post.

Yes, that baffles me, too. The episode does air on locals, if you get the show on locals.

UGH I hate that, if a network is gonna air a show, then they should air every episode.
