Bill recently dissed young black youth at a NAACP presentation of Brown vs. Board of Education 50th anniversary in Washington DC a few weeks ago. He spoke on the fact that back in the 60's u had blacks marching for civil rights & education & they had rocks thrown at them & dogs biting on them & gettin waterhoses splashed on them. He said now u got these knuckleheads walkin around with their pants sagging & gettin into trouble instead of going to school to learn somethin. He said u got young girls having babies & parents buying their kids $500 sneakers. A lot of white people were shocked at his comments but i definitely agree with what he said cause blacks in the ghetto are gettin out of hand & that's why the prisons across america are filled with black males more than any other race & black males are also dying quicker than any other race. Bill also said that foreigners come to america & do better than blacks cause foreigners want to learn & they like to work & he feels that blacks who live in the ghetto are too lazy & don't wanna be educated. He also said he doesn't understand the slang words that young blacks use & they don't talk properly LOL.

All that is very true, but my problem is why it always becomes this huge issue when it's our people. Nobody should be appaled by Bill Cosby's comment, rather it should be an eye opener. It seems African Americans are always depicted as the ignorant race, when Caucasians and Hispanics aren't very far behind if not equal in low-class living. I know here in Louisiana the statistics for welfare is higher for Caucasians than it is for African Americans. New Orleans, where I live, is very high in poverty, but I hate for people to refer to where we live as a "ghetto". There are hands full of people who make the U.S. non-livable, starting with the government and the jackassed criminals.

So what he said is true, he just stated it in front of the wrong audience. I think if he feels that strongly about his own race of people and their unaccomplished side, then he should make way and effort to speak to them.

I used to live in Maryland & i wish ya'll could hear the slang words that these black dudes use there. The slang words that they say, i ain't don't know what half of them words mean. The sad thing about being black especially if you're young is that u gotta act cool & wear baggy clothes to get accepted by your peers cause if u act different than everybody else, you're gonna get made fun of all the time & nobody wants to get made fun of. Another thing i can't stand about blacks is that we are too nosy & ask too many questions that don't concern us especially personal questions like how many times have u had sex & who is your girlfriend. Then they wanna know do u smoke weed, go to the club, drink alcohol. If u don't do none of that stuff, then you're considered weird, lame, square. That's the problem with our black youth is that there are too many followers & not enough leaders. Everybody wanna follow what everybody else is doing to be considered cool so u don't get made fun of & have people crackin jokes about u which is a sad situation. The same problem exists with puerto ricans & mexicans too. That's why u got all these puerto rican gangs. I've never understood why people join gangs. Being in a gang is so stupid. Some people just don't care about dying at a young age.

Hey, I live in DC, so I know. I will be moving to Hyattsville in July though. I agree with Bill Cosby. Isiahthomas, I know about the local teens. Say no more. I ride the subway home days and these teens don't give a hoot what comes out of their mouths, the N word, all of that. I think a lot of times they go to school only for the trip to, lunch, and trip home. Granted, my friends and I were crazy. We probably partied just as much, but back in the 80's, we did shyt more under control. And I agree with how some of them dress, to be accepted. I look some of these girls dressing the way they do. A lot of them could be honor students, for all I know.

Nerrad another thing young black males in DC & Maryland do is suck on straws hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. When i first saw them do that at my high school, i was like what the hell are they doing LOL. I've never seen dudes suck on straws until i lived in Maryland. When i used to live in Alexandria, Virginia i never saw black dudes do that. I saw this movie called Guilty By Association with Morgan Freeman. The movie was filmed in the hood in Washington DC. Morgan was a cop in the movie investigating black on black crimes. This one black dude who was a drug dealer in the movie was suckin on a straw LOL. Female rapper Queenpen who rapped on Blackstreet's No Diggedy song had a small role in the movie as a cop & r&b artist Bryce Wilson of Groove Theory also had a small role in the movie as a drug dealer. It was a alright movie but i was wondering why was Morgan in it cause that's not his type of movie. The movie came straight to video & u could tell it was a low budget movie.

I agree with everything you've said and what Mr. Cosby said, isiahthomas. I see this type of stuff in my city every time I go play basketball, and it's all true what you've said. I wish I could get some audio of Mr. Cosby saying it, I'm anxious to hear his tone.

I knew I've always liked Mr. Cosby. I was just telling someone a few years ago he is PROBABLY my favorite comedian of all time, (we were talking about comedians) and he believes in education vehemently which is cool. Most of these Hollywood celebrities are dumb as bricks 'cuz they all dropped out of high school to act; and they're there the "Leaders" and "Enlightened" we're supposed to follow . I could tell he believes in education by the Ph.D. I always see after his name, his charitable donations to colleges, and the episode of "The Cosby Show" that just came on today on TBS. It was set at Hillman, and it showed the pride of college and stuff.

^^Yet you're downing your own people when they use slang and improper English.

The thing I don't get is that you're making it seem as if blacks are the only people that use slang and as if ALL BLACKS are the same. I come from the HEART of New Orleans, I went to public schools and I'm FAR from what evereyone is depicting innercity blacks to be. It all depends on the type of person you are and what kind of home training you've recieved. It isn't offensive for people to speak their minds about a certain generation of blacks, but it's degrading for them to refer it to ALL blacks.

PEOPLE OF EVERY RACE CAUSE PROBLEMS, OK!

I meant to say i don't know what half of them slang words mean instead of saying i ain't don't know what half of them words mean. I know that every black person in the inner city isn't like that but there are a lot of them that are ignorant. I think the reason why some blacks act ignorant is because we want to be accepted by our peers & if we're not acting or dressing like everybody else is, then we're considered weird or lame. That's a problem that we need to change. For example Andre of rap group Outkast dresses differently than every rapper & he's looked upon as being weird. He wasn't like that at first but he changed when Erykah Badu became his woman hahahahahahahahahahaha. Erykah be puttin voodoo on her men LOL. Same thing happened to rapper Common when he became her man. He used to wear baggy clothes when he first came out but then when he got with her, his style of clothes changed & there's people who believe that he's weird now.
