I want to say that it's a toss up between 1993 & 2001. 1993 was a considerably horrible year by many smarts for the following reasons:
*The Shockmaster *WCW's Disney tapings *The Sting/Vader boat bomb skit/mini-movie for Bash at the Beach *Wrestlemania IX being regarded by many to this day as being the worst Wrestlemania ever *Catus Jack has amnesia *The "White Castle of Fear" As for 2001: *The XFL *WCW gets sold to Vince McMahon *ECW goes belly-up *Many attack the WWE for greatly botching the Invasion angle *Stephanie McMahon catches heat for comparing/analogizing 9/11 to her father's steroids trial on the first post-9/11 "Smackdown" *SCSA's bizarre heel turn (e.g. aligning w/ HHH) *HHH & Chris Benoit go on the injured list *Jerry "The King" Lawler abruptedly walks out on WWE in protest of them firing his then wife the Kat/Miss Kitty Quote:
1999 had Owen Hart dying, the Higher Power angle being an utter disaster and flop, and the Chest Poke of Doom. 1999 also had Chris Jericho sitting out the rest of his WCW contract rather than continue to get buried by Kevin Nash. Not to mention Vince McMahon booking himself to win the Royal Rumble and Shane McMahon being pushed as a top heel in the company for a while. And finally, how about 2000 which had David Arquette winning the WCW World Title, the WWE leaving the USA Network, and the McMahon family hogging the spotlight (i.e. Wrestlemania). 2000 also had Vince Russo shooting on Hulk Hogan during Bash at the Beach, WCW's "Saturday Night" getting canceled, Bret Hart's career abruptly ended by a Goldberg cheap-shot, and half of the WCW roster threatening to walk out in protest of Kevin Sullivan being named the head booker. |
