I am sick of Tina Fey bashing president Bush every single chance she gets. I don't care that she doesn't like him. I don't care if she is a liberal. By shoving her political agenda in my face week after week, she lost a fan who enjoyed SNL for it's groundbreaking comedy. The weekend update hosts before her handled politics with actual humor. Tina Fey is USING SNL as a forum for Bush bashing. Where is the Humor in that? Maybe next time when they turn the applause light on, people start booing, she might get the message: Shut up Tina Fey, I'm trying to laugh.

Is there anyone else out there that sees it my way?

I saw it and it was not very funny. In fact, SNL would never make fun of a liberal black woman like they did Coni. Tina’s oft-inaccurate and whimsical Bush jabs may get the desired response from the studio audience, but for a lot of home viewers, it’s completely flat. Liberal bias is one thing, unfunny humor is another, and together they make for the celebrated mediocrity that is Tina Fey on WU. I don’t notice any prominent Kerry jokes, and several are waiting to be made. Does this mean that Fey actually thinks that by giving Kerry a pass, she can perhaps influence the election? As if this is her responsibility, all celebrity bigheadedness aside? Is WU from now until November going to be thinly veiled campaign headquarters for whoever is Not Bush? If Kerry gets into office, will the Bush jabs continue?

Bottom line, Fey’s WU shticks are neither funny nor insightful. (This it shares with most everything else on recent episodes.) Neither does the woman seem particularly informed from what I’ve read in her interviews, thus perhaps the sophomoric level of her political “humor.� As far as the show goes, this WU pairing (Fallon as anchor, wot?) has pretty much stunk since the get-go and nowadays marks the point where I turn the episode off.

Calling someone a loser is very childish and immature and Chopper is doing the exact same thing that he's getting upset at Tina for, name calling and making fun of someone. Back when Clinton was in office, SNL did lots of Clinton jokes, and I bet Chopper and the others who are currently up in arms about the Bush jokes, were able to "overlook" those jokes. I am a staunch Liberal and I was able to sit through 8 years of SNL jokes about Clinton and I survived and the only thing I can say to you Bush supporters is, you'll survive as well. At the beginning of the season, I was as big a Tina fan as anyone...I thought her first three years of delevering jokes on SNL were priceless. However, this season, she has taken a slump. She seems to get worse on every show. Maybe making her movie has had something to do with that, but whatever it is, I don't find myself laughing at Tina as much anymore. As far as a political agenda goes...yes, it is SNL...and making fun of the president is SNL's tagline. I don't fault Tina for that, however, all her jokes are one dimensional! Bush is stupid! Ok we get it. Would I like to see her make fun of John Kerry or Howard Dean? yes! To me, they're untapped resources as far as jokes go...I'm still a Tina supporter and would like to see her return to her days of glory. However, I think it is time for an update revamp...perhaps back to the days of one person at the desk. personally, I'd like to see Tina work by herself and then make a decision on how bad she really is at it. And p.s....I always thought Tina considered herself independent politically...I would be surprised to hear that she is a liberal.

Tina's Bush jokes are up and down. Some are very funny and some bomb. That's how most jokes are. I don't expect ALL her jokes to be funny. I just think the quality of Update has gotten progressively worse since the first couple months of the season. Update last year as a whole definitely sucked. Tina's first two years on Update were great. Her rants were hilarious. Now her rants are not very funny at all. I think about half her Bush jokes are funny. Thanks for the welcome. I think that even us repubs disagree on a few things. Like Tina Fey. I like her for some reason. To me the weekend update is the only really good part of the show. That and anything Maya is in. I think she really is the most talented of the show now.

But it isn't her fault Bush says/does stupid things each week, is it? Besides, she doesn't only take stabs at Bush or republicans. She's made plenty of jokes about other politicians and presidential candidates (including democrats) lately. And you seem to be forgetting that Weekend Update has more writers in addition to Tina and Jimmy.

Don't pass off "Tina sucks," as if it's fact. If SNL viewers thought she sucked and that her jokes were "horrible," she wouldn't have a $4 million deal with NBC right now. That's how television politics works.

That's putting it politely. This is the worse season in a long, long time. The writing is weak, offensive and heavily biased. The sharpness that led to some great political commentary in 2000 is missing - probably due to the fact that Miss Tina Fey does not like Pres. Bush and takes every opportunity to remind us of her dislike.
There is still some good talent at SNL - like Darrell Hammond or Mia Rudolph or even Horation Sands - but they need decent material to work with ... and that is missing. Maybe it's because they are trying to please one demographic instead of just writing and performing good comedy. I'm 50 - and I still like to watch SNL - but this year - I've turned it off more than I've bothered watching it.

I can't stand her! I watch sometimes and I find myself saying "that is so not funny." I will admit that sometimes there is a little chuckle here and there, but other than that its pretty pathetic. I believe the show pretty much sucks because Tina Fey is one of the head writers or is the head writer and since her humor is questionable the show is suffering. I'll stick to MADTV. I always find myself laughing at old episodes on comedy central. The spanish version of gilligans island was hillarious.

I do think part of SNL problem is Tina Fey being their head writer. She was in my brothers Second City Improv class. He said that she wasn't that funny - but she worked hard, kept trying and was a real cutie (okay he said hottie.) So she may have a redeeming quality - but basically she sucks in front of the camera. And if this years writing is any indication - she has hit her "Peter Principle".

Tina Fey does not have many credits to her name. She even has fewer -- a lot fewer -- than recent auditee Dakota Fanning, who has trod this earth less than a third as long as Fey has. And yet there are few who would assert that Tina Fey is not accomplished. Rather, she is proof that it is still possible (if rare) to be a show-business success based on the quality of one's achievements and not their quantity.

Before we really get into our assessment of Ms. Fey, we have to make it clear that we are just as tired as everyone else is of all the press coverage her show, Saturday Night Live, has been getting for suddenly noticing that its female cast members are funny and using them skillfully on the show, as though no one who produced the show knew how to deploy female comic actors until writer/performer Fey; castmates Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph; and director Beth McCarthy Miller came along. However, the fact that this evolution in the show's sensibility is somewhat overreported in the media doesn't mean that those overreporting it are talking out their asses; the show is about as good as it's ever been largely because the women on it are getting to perform good material.

(And not, we should hasten to add, because there has been a dearth of talented female performers in the past; a recent appearance by Cheri Oteri on The Ellen DeGeneres Show reminded us again of how ****ing funny she is, and to lament to ourselves what a sin it is that she has yet to become the superstar she so richly deserves to be.)

(We'd also like to add that as much as we love the ladies -- and we totally do, you guys -- one story that is sinfully underreported is how many talented male performers in the show's cast are wasted due to attention-hogging welcome-overstayers Darrell Hammond, Jimmy Fallon, and Horatio Sanz (the latter two of whom are also often wasted in another sense of the word). Dudes, can't you hurry up and start thinking you're too good for the show and leave, and make room for Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Seth Meyers, and Kenan Thompson? I mean, honest to God.)

ANYHOW. Fey -- in a refreshing display of professionalism for someone involved in SNL -- is always very conscientious in interviews that laud her head writership as the reason for the show's sharp sketches to emphasize that she has a co-head writer in Dennis McNicholas, so we'll go ahead and mention him, too. But whatever: he doesn't co-anchor "Weekend Update" (though maybe he should; he couldn't do any damn worse than Fallon), and he didn't write Mean Girls. He may well be extremely talented and write all of Fey's best SNL zingers, but he's not famous at all, except in conjunction with her, and therefore we have no reason here at FAMEtracker to comment on his career. In fact, we've already said too much about him. Pretend we never brought him up.

Fey, on the other hand, is quite famous. She's arguably the most famous current SNL cast member; sure, Rudolph got the slot on Entertainment Weekly's recent list of the funniest people in America, but Fey was the one on the cover a few years back (with Fallon), the one profiled in The New Yorker last fall and in EW a couple of weeks ago, the one gracing the cover of the "Smart" issue of Bust. Fey is like SNL's goodwill ambassador to the media: smart, but not too elitist; pretty, but not too inaccessible; funny, but not too nasty.

The real measure of Fey's fame, however, finally has less to do with SNL than with Mean Girls. In the weeks surrounding the release of the movie -- Fey's very first produced screenplay -- Fey did about as much press to promote it as its star Lindsay Lohan did. Try, for a moment, to think of another screenwriter famous enough to get booked on talk shows when his or her new movie comes out. Writer/directors, maybe -- like Quentin Tarantino -- but screenwriters are generally kept under wraps, away from human eyes, treated like scaly, boil-covered, hideous freaks. Yes, freaks even more hideous than Quentin Tarantino. But Fey has achieved so much fame off her SNL gig that Mean Girls is like her fame coronation. It's the fame cotillion at which she's making her fame début. It's her fame mitzvah.

We say, more power to her. We allow that she'd probably never have gotten the "Update" gig if she were still thirty pounds overweight. We allow that she wouldn't be one of the world's most recognizable screenwriters if she wasn't so cute. Fame can absolutely be contingent on one's appearance. But seriously, we saw Mean Girls, and it's good. We're happy she's famous because we know she's talented. And how often do we get to say that?

I suggest anyone who actually isn't biased enough that they can look at both sides to go over to MargaretCho.com. She made an anti-Bush comment a few months ago, and she posted the hate mail she received on there. I mean, disliking the president hardly justifies "die you fat gook dyke" and stuff like that. Over 500 emails of Bush supporters spewing hatred, some hating her for being a female, others who hate Asians (SHE WAS BORN IN AMERICA, so "go home you gook" means "stay here"), others who are homophobic (saying "all your fans have AIDS" hardly helps recruit gays to like conservatives) and other people who have issues with her weight. It was nasty and evil, what they said to and about Margaret was a lot worse than what she said about Bush. Disliking the president hardly justifies having such hatefulness. Margaret Cho is a lot cooler than Arnold Schwarzeneggar, she's the coolest comedienne in the world

Going on and on about how Tina Fey is a loser over disliking Bush (I don't like Bush either!) is no better that emailing Margaret Cho and making fun of her for being Asian, having a weight problem, and being bisexual.
