Ditto. Slows my computer down too much to share.

Besides, all the songs I dl are from groups/people that are either broken up or dead. I doubt the dead people really care.

Yesterday It was reported that the number of users online on Kazaa Media Desktop had dropped... Now it looks like the numbers are back up and the RIAA's Threat isn't stopping people..

No, that's not what'll happen next. What'll happen next is -- the complete disappearance of a music industry because everyone can take if or free.

Singers, musicians and composers are in it to make a living. Someone here mentioned earlier that we can hear music on the radio for free. This is true, but does that entitle us to walk into a music store, grab any CDs we want and walk out without paying for them? They're played on the radio to promote *sales*. It's the singers, musicians and composers' *business.*

You said here, in so many words, "I don't just steal whole products that I like. I just steal the ones I'm not sure I want *all* of. How dare they take that right away from me!" Sounds like that's the artist's punishment for not making a CD that pleases you entirely -- you get it for free . . . and they get no sale.

Are this many people really crying about the prospect of having difficulty getting something for nothing??

And, don't ask me how I found this board.

Art

People are sharing music that they already paid for, just like if I borrowed a cd from someone who just bought it. What makes the first one so much worse than the second?

Also, music files aren't the only files being shared, so why is the music industry making so many complaints? What about downloading movies? What's worse.. Watching a movie on ABC for free, or downloading the same movie on the internet for free?

laceyinthesky,
Who knows why a person, persons or even an industry getting ripped off might choose not to complain about it? It's their right to or not to . . . and their choice.

On the subject of "sharing," if you buy CDs and then "share" them with *millions* of people you don't even know, I've gotta tell you -- you're astonishingly generous!

I never said it wasn't they're right to complain about it. I just don't think they're going to have a great argument in court.

I don't know what made me think you were questioning anybody's right to complain. Actually, to be technical, I never said that you said it wasn't their right to complain. Must've been that line in your reply,"why is the music industry making so many complaints?" that confused me. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Default music videos

what about music videos? I have a ton of them on here and it's not like they sell their videos unless they do a video DVD like Abba did but they rarely do that.

MandieR1980,
Music videos aren't really the "product." They're an expensive and risky means of promoting the artist and promoting sales of the product, which is the recording. At least, that was the original idea.

Some friends of mine in the recording business once spent more than $120,000 on the production of a music video -- only to have it *rejected* by MTV, after it was finished. Not only did they *not* get that money back, but they also had to shell out an even greater amount to make another video which MTV accepted.
