From Tracey Gold

A day after "Growing Pains" star Alan Thicke's death, his TV daughter, actress Tracey Gold, reacted to the news of his unexpected passing.

"I am in absolute shock and so unbelievably sad," Gold said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday.

Gold played daughter Carol Seaver on the hit '80s sitcom as well as two reunion movies.

"In 1985, the Seavers became a family and Alan was our patriarch," she wrote. "I looked up to Alan and admired him greatly. I always listened to his advice and wisdom. He was so kind and warm and always made me laugh. He was incredibly proud that our 'Growing Pains' days were about family, all our families."

"He was truly an amazing father," she continued. "His sons were his world. Our 'Growing Pains' family is hurting today and that will not go away anytime soon. He was so full of life. I thought we had so much time. I’m not ready to say goodbye. I am so honored to have been his daughter for seven beautiful years. I love you Alan and will miss you forever."

The iconic actor died of a “ruptured aorta” and a “standard type A aortic dissection,” according to Thicke’s official death certificate obtained by PEOPLE. The document states that Thicke died mere minutes after his aorta ruptured.

A ruptured dissecting aortic aneurysms are a STAT emergency, with overall mortality rates (IIRC) about 80-90% ... minutes count when treating tears/dissection in the aorta (the largest artery in the body).

Those things happen so fast and the only warning you get is what feels like a heart attack so you're treated for that instead. If it is a VERY small tear that is just oozing a tiny amount of blood there is time to get to the hospital and into OR to be repaired. But normally tears are much larger & in the aorta a person will bleed out in about 3 minutes and be dead.

It appears to me that Alan Thicke had the same illness that Lucille Ball had passed away from in 1989 and i'm surprised that this happened to a great actor because these illnesses are very rare in people today and many people have been known to survive these illnesses a lot

I hated to hear of his passing! I loved the episode of the dance, when Maggie took over for the DJ, and when she let the music lapse, he jumped on the stage and did a "DJ" bit. He was so good as the father. He really brought the character to life!

Thanks for those Memorial service pictures. I haven't seen those, and didn't know they had one with the cast.

They were like a family. It must have been hard for them to say goodbye.

I have been hearing a lot of Alan Thicke stories in the news lately starting with the Access Hollywood interview with Tanya Thicke and I would like to know why this is? Is it gonna be the anniversary of Alan Thicke's death or has the mystery of Alan Thicke's death gonna be reopened? Even though Alan Thicke is no longer alive he's still my crush and I think he's so cute and he was such a gentleman and that's the main reason I got Growing Pains on DVD

Growing Pains kids reunite and reflect on late "dad" Alan Thicke
Kirk Cameron, Tracey Gold and Jeremy Miller visited the Today show this morning, with Gold saying of Thicke: “it’s still surreal. It’s still hard to grasp and when we’re together it is a reminder.”
