^^Choices for a fresh WC champion are now down to three (Belgium, Norway, and Switzerland).

The final four

Tuesday
France- Spain

Wednesday
England- Argentina

The four highest ranked teams in the world. This is like what is often said about the NCAA basketball tournament. The early days are for the Cinderellas and underdogs. The final days are for the top teams.

It's A Small World After All

That title is very apropos when it comes to the World Cup competition. There have been 22 World Cup winners, 2 European nations have won 8, Germany 4, Italy 4, 2 South American nations have won 8, Brazil 5, Argentina 3. Of the remaining 6 winners 4 are European nations, France twice, England and Spain once, the other two cups were won by Uruguay 1930 (the first World Cup) and 1950 (the first World Cup after World War II).

We see similar consistency in teams that have gone to the World Cup final and lost, of the 22 losing teams Brazil and Argentina have lost 5 times, no other South American team is represented. Of the 17 remaining teams that made it to the finals and lost, 8 are from the European countries that are mentioned above. Five additional European countries have made the finals and lost, Czech Republic twice, Hungry twice, the Netherlands three times, Sweden once and Croatia once. Only the Netherlands (1) and Croatia have made the World Cup finals since 1980.

Of the remaining 8 teams left 6 are from Europe and South America is once again represented by Argentina leaving only Morocco as the newbie.

Basically the World Cup is Europe. Brazil and Argentina. I don't have an answer for any of this, but future World Cup competition needs to address this redundancy. The groupings should reflect a need to eliminate European teams by matching them against each other. The final 8 teams should be more reflective of the entire world, no more than three or tops four European teams should ever get this far again.
Well, as feared, no ninth unique FIFA World Cup champion this year after Switzerland's elimination last Saturday (July 11). I hope this sameness regarding FIFA WC champions and finalists is natural and isn't a result of rigging.

Oh No

It's probably going to be Spain v Argentina.

It isn't as fun as a team that hasn't went.

I think we may have found out why Senegal lost

Senegal team doctor 'trained as a gynaecologist', federation president says

Nothing against him, but maybe not the best skill set for a MENS soccer team.

Ok, hate Argentina or not, that was pretty impressive. Doing that against Egypt is one thing, doing it against England is another.

2 more games:

Saturday 5pm EST, France- England, third place game. Some underdog countries might look at this as a big game, but you know France and England just want to go home at this point.

Sunday, 3 pm EST . The championship. Spain- Argentina

I had Argentina in the final in my Round of 32 bracket. My other semi-final picks (Netherlands, USA and Norway) didn't turn out so well.

They have shown why they are the defending champions. They are never out of a match. Lionel Messi is the 🐐.

Argentina repeats as champions. Argentina 2, Spain 0.

Both these guys are playing on Sunday. That’s Messi and current 19 year old Spain superstar Lamine Yamal back in 2007.
