Or more specifically, people really only wanting to watch Columbo? I know that it sounds like an oversimplification towards what really happened. But, to put things into perspective, did the wheel format ultimately prove to be very frustrating to viewers since they could only tune into Columbo once a month? Especially considering that television traditionally or typically relies on building habitual viewing. That obviously couldn't be done week to week because the core product completely changed every seven days. Like, one week you'll get Columbo, and then the very next week, you'll get McCloud, and then the week after that, you'll get McMillan & Wife, etc.
