Movie Regina Hall and Anna Faris are Returning for New Scary Movie Directed by Wayans Bros.

Regina Hall and Anna Faris are Returning to the Scary Movie Franchise for Wayans Brothers' Revival
by Mekishana Pierre
August 15, 2025

Entertainment Weekly can confirm that Regina Hall and Anna Faris will reprise their roles as onscreen BFFs for the Scary Movie revival kick-started by the franchise's original creators, the Wayans Brothers.

"We can't wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we'd literally die for (in Brenda's case, again.)," Hall and Faris said in a statement.

Marlon Wayans confirmed the news in a post on his Instagram, sharing a photo of the duo from the first film. Scary Movie is currently slated to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.

What killed the Scary Movie franchise and what does Harvey Weinstein have to do with it?

Once the most successful parody series in Hollywood, Scary Movie started as a clever cultural satire but quickly turned into a chaotic mess of cheap jokes, studio interference, and behind-the-scenes scandals.

In this video, we’ll dive deep into how the Wayans brothers created a phenomenon, how the Weinsteins took control, and why the series completely lost its soul. From the rise of parody films in the early 2000s to the downfall of Scary Movie 5, this is the full story of how Hollywood’s biggest spoof franchise died and how greed and ego played the leading roles.

When the first Scary Movie debuted in theaters, the slasher genre was at an all-time high. Movies like Scream and New Nightmare were captivating audiences everywhere. But with Scary Movie's perfect parody being such a success it wouldn't be long for the parody genre to play itself out with a tidal wave of terrible movies. How exactly did Scary Movie's success lead to the downfall of an entire genre?

During the early 2000s, the Wayan's brothers were the kings of spoof films. While Scary Movie and its sequels perhaps aren't so fondly remembered today, mostly due to their crude sense of humor, there is no denying that they did had some comments to make about the horror genre. Question is: What did the Scary Movie franchise ultimately end up telling us? And do those things still ring true today?

This video explores the history and eventual decline of parody movies, a once staple of the comedy film genre. Can Scary Movie 6 revamp the genre or is it dead forever? I look at highlights and discuss why this subset of filmmaking ultimately faded, despite audience interest in funny content. Could movie parody make a comeback, or is the genre permanently in the past?

The Scary Movie franchise is a wood-chipper of comedy into which many a horror movie has been tossed and now, its back for its sixth entry with Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Shawn, and Marlon Wayans all returning to their roles to parody movies like Longlegs, Sinners, and Halloween (2018). The new Scary Movie looks like it's going to be answering longstanding questions like what ever happened to Officer Doofy or Hanson the caretaker, so we've recapped all five of the Scary Movies. Now, when you see it, you can be sure that no one on this good, green planet will be more equipped with the knowledge or context necessary to understand the inner workings of the continuity that Scary Movie has labored over for 26 years.

The Scary Movie franchise changed comedy forever. Starting in 2000, the parody series created by the Wayans Brothers turned horror films like Scream into hilarious chaos and became one of the biggest spoof franchises in movie history.

In this video from Bushwick’s Review Hub, we break down every Scary Movie film, from the original Wayans classics to the later sequels that took the series in a very different direction.

We explore:
  • Why the first two movies were so successful
  • What happened when the Wayans Brothers left after Scary Movie 2
  • How Scary Movie 3, 4, and 5 changed the formula
  • And why the franchise is returning with Scary Movie 6

The original films became massive hits, with the first movie alone earning over $278 million worldwide and launching a long-running parody empire.

With the Wayans brothers now returning for a brand new sequel set to parody modern horror films, the legacy of Scary Movie is more relevant than ever.

🎃 If you love horror comedies, parody movies, and 2000s nostalgia, this is the ultimate look back at the Scary Movie franchise.

The Self-Destructive History of Scary Movie

Scary Movie became one of the most successful comedy franchises of the 2000s, but its history is far stranger than most people remember.

This video explores the franchise’s journey from the film that revived spoof comedy to the sequels that slowly lost sight of what made it work in the first place. From horror satire and box office success to creative reinventions, declining quality, and one of the most infamous comedy sequels ever made.
