"Queer Eye" Renewed at Netflix for Season 9
by Peter White November 13, 2023 Netflix has just renewed the reality series for Season 9. The ninth season will switch locations to Las Vegas after Season 8 will be once again set in New Orleans. Season 8 will premiere on January 24, 2024. It comes after Bobby Berk posted an emotional goodbye as he plans to exit the show with Season 8. “It’s with a heavy heart that I announce that season 8 will be my final season on Queer Eye. It’s not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one. Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon,” he said. https://deadline.com/2023/11/queer-e...-9-1235601250/ |

Bobby Berk explains Queer Eye exit as he confirms feud with Tan France
Berk, who announced his departure from the Netflix reality show last November, tells Vanity Fair that he assumed that the second New Orleans season would be the last as it wrapped up his and the rest of the Fab Five's seven-year deal. On the last day, “the Fab Five and the crew, we all stood there, and we took pictures and cried,” says Berk. “We thought we were done. Mentally and emotionally, I thought we all moved on. I know I did, and I started planning other things.” But last fall, Netflix decided to renew Queer Eye due to a shortage of original content because of the writers' and actors' strikes. So he, Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness and Tan France were all offered new deals. Berk decided not to sign and says the other Fab Five members were considering doing the same. “We’d just assumed that the show wouldn’t come back if we all didn’t come back,” he says. “I was like, I’m not going to be having FOMO ’cause the show is not going to happen. I had become at peace with it.” Then, shortly before the deadline, something happened that changed the other four cast members' minds. “And with only one of us not coming back, Netflix felt (it) could recast one person,” says Berk, adding: “There were definitely emotions. But each one of us had our reasons why we did what we did. I can’t be mad—for a second I was.” Berk also confirmed rumors of feuding with Tan France. “Tan and I had a moment,” says Berk. “There was a situation, and that’s between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that had been brewing—and nothing romantic, just to clarify that...Should I have unfollowed Tan (on Instagram)? No. Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day, I was angry, and that’s the end of it. We became like siblings—and siblings are always going to fight.” |

Queer Eye announces Jeremiah Brent as Bobby Berk's replacement
The esteemed interior designer joins Karamo Brown, Tan France, Antoni Porowski, and Jonathan Van Ness in the upcoming Las Vegas-set Season 9. Brent is an alum of The Rachel Zoe Project who got his big break hosting the Oprah Winfrey Network's Home Made Simple. Brent and fellow esteemed interior designer/TV star Nate Berkus have been married for 10 years. They previously co-hosted HGTV's Nate & Jeremiah Save My House and The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project. |

Jonathan Van Ness accused of being a "monster" while filming Queer Eye
Bobby Berk's recent exit from the Netflix reality show revealed there was tension among the Fab Five. But, Rolling Stone's Cheyenne Roundtree reports, "even making the show was difficult, four production sources say, due, in part, to Van Ness’ behind-the-scenes behavior. Three more sources who worked with the reality star described Van Ness as emotionally 'abusive' and having 'rage issues.'" Berk's exit ended the illusion of happy family," says Roundtree. "As Queer Eye got bigger, the quintet grew increasingly competitive over screen time and who had the best sound bites, production sources say, as each jockeyed to be the show’s biggest star," reports Roundtree. "Still, it was clear hairstylist Van Ness was the breakout personality. That, however, brought another set of issues. Four Queer Eye production sources and three sources who worked with Van Ness said the reality star was terrible to work with, using words like 'monster,' 'nightmare,' and 'demeaning' to describe them. Three people labeled Van Ness as emotionally 'abusive' and having 'rage issues,' and all seven sources said the star would lash out at crew members and people who worked closely with Van Ness." As one production source put it: “(There’s) a real emotion of fear around them when they get angry. It’s almost like a cartoon where it oozes out of them. It’s intense and scary.” During filming, one production source estimated that Van Ness would explode at least once a week. “He was a yeller,” they said. A Queer Eye production source likened the Fab Five to a boy band that was put together. “Essentially they were a group of people put together in their mid-thirties and told to be best friends," said the source. "But people don’t expect that Queer Eye could be that. That’s truly what it was: a manufactured boy band with big personalities that certain ones were favored and certain ones were not, and then eventually (things) turned really toxic.” Van Ness did not reply to Rolling Stone's multiple requests for comment. |

Karamo Brown says toxicity with Queer Eye co-stars led to him relapsing on drugs and alcohol
“I was depressed,” he tells People of relapsing while filming Season 3. “It felt shameful because I was teaching people that they could be better, but in my own life I was trapped.” Brown says the tensions between him and his Fab Five castmates, which were exacerbated by bullying and unchecked bad behavior by executives and members of production, contributed to his relapse after 12 years of sobriety. “I struggled with not facing my demons and the things I was going through on Queer Eye,” he says. “It was: ‘I’m stressed from work, meet me at a bar for a drink.’ A drink would lead to weed, cocaine, pills. I wasn’t coping right, but I pretended like I was. I was so broken.” |
