Red face

2001 Nisqually Quake which shook Western Washington. We ducked under our desks and work was called off for the rest of the day. Later I saw buildings broken in half, shifted apart by a few feet.

I was also down in L.A. in 1987 during the Whittier Quake. That was scary. I was afraid the whole earth was about to move every step I took.

I didn't realize that was the name of the 2001 Washington e.q.- thanks for the info.

Yeah, I remember the 1987 Whittier quake. It was scary (and it was "only" a 5.9)!

Yeah, they called it the Nisqually Quake based on the epicenter located about 17.5 miles northeast of Olympia (some miles south of Tacoma).

I remember when they said the Whittier Quake was HUGE--and then they downgraded it to only a 5.9--it sure felt bigger than that!

Yup - a couple of rather mild ones. First was back in 1981 early in the morning. I didn't feel anything but my cats went bananas (apparently animals seem to feel or sense them better than humans).

The other was is 1989 or so and was a little bigger. I lived on the 5th floor of an apt. building that started to rock. I couldn't figure out at first why my hanging plants were swaying and the couch I was lying on seemed to be moving too! Turned out there was a 7 point something quake (can't remember where the epicenter was). We don't normally get them up in our neck of the woods so I found it kinda fun (very mild damage only).

I've always had the feeling that if I ever visited California though the "Big One' would hit while I was there!

Tripper fan what a cutie of a doggie you have in your avatar.

Now back to the question.......

I felt a mild little shock a couple of years ago in NYC.

Thx Pitooey! He's one of two pomeranians of mine! A happy little fella who's never experienced a quake, but is pretty good at shaking things up anyway!!

I think people are making this happen by taking the OIL that protects the earth from things like this!!

People (Human Animals) are the worst things on this planet........ The most evil and uncaring bastards and they are supposed to be the most intelligent??

Yes a small one. And I was watching a scary movie at the time, when it came on suddenly, which added to the terror lol

My family was in the 1989 earthquake and my mother and uncle were very scared because it happened so suddenly and my mother had to carry both the television and me and I was four when it happened and there was no gas for our car and Dad had to go somewhere else to find water and gas and groceries too. But we were very safe and nothing happened to us

There have been a couple of small ones around here over the years. They felt over a large area, if I recall.

There was the one that hit Virginia a few years back and it was so strong it was felt in Baltimore.
