The Athletics are utilizing an unusual move for their Las Vegas stadium: personal seat licenses, or PSLs.

The PSL program is expected to help fund some of the construction costs for the $2 billion venue on the Las Vegas Strip.

Howard Stutz from The Nevada Independent joined us to break down how PSLs work, why they're unusual in Major League Baseball, and what more fans can expect from the A's in the weeks ahead.

Philadelphia Phillies outlast the Athletics to claim their city’s baseball legacy. Why did the more decorated A’s become wanderers, while the Phillies turned into a hometown powerhouse?

Sully explores the rivalry between the Philadelphia Athletics and the Phillies, highlighting how Connie Mack’s stubborn leadership, family infighting, and untimely decisions led the A’s to leave town, despite World Series wins and legends like Lefty Grove and Jimmy Foxx. The Phillies—once the underdogs—leveraged smart ownership, minor league investments, and rising stars to seize control, cementing their place in Philadelphia sports history. Key topics include stadium histories (Baker Bowl, Shibe Park), postwar shifts, and the A’s nomadic journey from Kansas City to Oakland, and their uncertain future in Las Vegas.

Discover how a combination of greed, timing, and leadership turned Philadelphia into a Phillies town, while the A’s continue their search for a permanent home.

Petition calling for Congress to review MLB’s antitrust exemption after Oakland A’s relocation

Quote:
With the Oakland A’s relocation moving forward, some fans have started asking a bigger question about Major League Baseball itself.

MLB operates under a unique antitrust exemption granted by Congress, something no other major professional sports league has in the same way.

I launched a petition asking U.S. Congress to review MLB’s antitrust exemption and examine how it impacts situations like the Oakland relocation.

Regardless of where people stand on the A’s situation, it raises a bigger question about whether this exemption still makes sense in modern professional sports?

https://c.org/YmH5zxSNJ8

Quote:
The Issue

For more than 100 years, Major League Baseball has operated under a unique antitrust exemption that no other professional sports league enjoys.

This exemption allows MLB owners to operate collectively in ways that would otherwise violate federal antitrust laws. It gives them the power to control franchise relocation, block competition, and prioritize ownership interests over the communities and fans that support the game.

The recent relocation of the Oakland Athletics is a clear example of why this exemption must be re-examined.

For generations, Oakland supported the Athletics through championships, rebuilding years, and everything in between. Instead of working with the city and its fans to secure the team’s future, ownership and the league chose to abandon one of baseball’s most historic communities.

When a league operates as a protected monopoly, fans and cities have little recourse.

Major League Baseball should not be allowed to make decisions that devastate communities while remaining shielded from the same laws that apply to nearly every other industry in the United States.

We call on Congress to:

• Hold hearings on Major League Baseball’s antitrust exemption
• Investigate the circumstances surrounding the relocation of the Oakland Athletics
• Consider legislation to repeal or limit MLB’s antitrust exemption

Baseball belongs to its fans and communities, not just billionaire owners.

If MLB wants to operate like a monopoly, it should be treated like one under the law.

It is time for accountability.

Athletics games to air on broadcast TV in Las Vegas

Quote:
A total of 20 games will air on Gray Media-owned KVVU (Channel 5), the Fox affiliate in Las Vegas, as part of Gray Media’s regional sports broadcast network, the Silver State Sports and Entertainment Network (SSSEN).

Most of the games will air on KVVU’s secondary digital channel, which is affiliated with SSSEN on a full-time basis. The channel will also offer an hour-long pre-game show called “A’s Cast Live” before games aired on SSSEN. A half-hour pre-game and post-game show will air on radio stations affiliated with the Las Vegas Sports Network.

The Athletics are in the process of relocating to Las Vegas, where their stadium is currently being built. In the meantime, the former Oakland team is playing all regular-season games at a stadium in West Sacramento, California. The A’s stadium in Las Vegas is scheduled to open in time for the 2028 baseball season.

The A’s leaving Oakland wasn’t inevitable… and this new bill proves it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXrEiabizfA

Quote:
Two congressmen are introducing a bill Thursday that would essentially federalize Ohio’s Modell Law and impose a series of conditions before a pro team could move out of its existing metropolitan area.

The Home Team Act, proposed by Rep. Greg Casar (D., Texas) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), would require pro team owners to give local communities a chance to buy the teams before relocating. Among the specific provisions in the bill:

Mandating that team owners give a minimum one-year notice before moving to a new community, defined as crossing state lines or moving to a new metropolitan statistical area.

Giving local communities an opportunity to buy the team at a “fair price,” including through models such as what the publicly owned Packers use.

Enforces penalties on non-compliant franchise owners, including fines of $30,000 per day.

I didn't watch this video but I am familiar with this piece of legislation, a piece of legislation that needs to be passed and signed into law. The current system is nothing short of legalized racketeering. The unfettered rights bestowed on these leagues is obscene, they self police, they have complete control of the marketplace, engage in unconscionable price gouging, and have been even granted virtual taxing rights. Another one of their seemingly endless powers is the censorship of media coverage. Does anyone think FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC will dare give this bill any serious coverage at the risk of raising the ire of NFL. Let's hope for the best but expect the worse, the bad guys (team owners) will be working day and night against it.

A's games rank as third-most expensive in MLB at $324

Quote:
Two seasons in Sacramento, and the A's are the third-most expensive team for families to see in person. Is it even worth going out to catch a game anymore at prices like this?

Easy link to contact Congress and urge them to hold a hearing for Rob Manfred and John Fisher

Quote:
Let’s keep it plain and simple. What MLB did in Oakland was a manufactured relocation in which Oakland had no chance of keeping the team. Oakland was used as leverage so John Fisher could obtain public funds from other cities. MLB encouraged this by waving the $500mm+ relocation fee while doing nothing to mediate the situation in Oakland.

MLB has an anti-trust exemption which was granted to stop MLb teams from relocating, especially from cities like Oakland. If we want to hold MLB accountable, it takes action.

This link is quick, easy, and automatically finds your reps when you put in your address. If you want an easy way to take action, please consider filling it out today. Many thanks as we spent a bit of time creating this site.

Ex-A's owner rips 'despicable' Giants for team's relocation from Oakland https://trib.al/xCLtMrm

Former Oakland Athletics co-owner Lew Wolff blamed the San Francisco Giants for the team's relocation in his new memoir, labeling the rival club's refusal to relinquish territorial rights as "despicable" and "shameful". Wolff argued the move was "100 percent due" to the Giants blocking a potential South Bay relocation. Read the full story at New York Post.
