When TLC was launched in the 90's as The Learning Channel it was a channel like The Discovery Channel with a learning aspect and was meant to be an educational channel and when TLC was launched it's lineup consisted of educational shows and documentaries. But in the 2000's we started to see a change to TLC and gone was the educational shows and TLC began to focus on documentary type shows such as the Story series consisting of the shows A Wedding Story and A Baby Story and then An Adoption Story was later added and based on the popularity of those shows proved that TLC was no longer The Learning Channel anymore. But it was Trading Spaces that started the reality show image and after Trading Spaces ended it's run this brought a different side to TLC. While channels like History Channel focused on educational shows and The Discovery Channel had also changed it's image many watchers of TLC were shocked at this new image. And I cannot figure out why A Baby Story became popular and my mom saw this show and A Wedding Story she found those shows unappealing. But you can blame the popularity of John And Kate Plus 8 for TLC's soaring ratings and they created spin-off shows from that show. But someday TLC will return to it's original format but there are channels like The Science Channel and Story Television for educational shows

"From its beginnings as THE LEARNING CHANNEL to becoming a reality show slop factory..."
I love this description! Cycle back 15 or 20 years, it was an interesting channel. Both it and A&E (which stood for Arts and Entertainment Network) turned into pure garbage. |
