Melissa Gilbert Says "Little House on the Prairie" Reboot “Will Do Things We Didn’t Get to do So Easily in the ’70s
by Lynette Rice
February 6, 2025

TV’s original Laura Ingalls is speaking out about Netflix’s plans to reboot "Little House on the Prairie".

In an interview with EW, Melissa Gilbert, aka the Laura in the long-running NBC series from 1974-1984, said, “there’s room in the Little House universe for all different kinds of stories to be told, just like there was always room in the Little Women universe to keep retelling that story.

These are classic stories, and no one’s done it where they hewed to the books completely,” Gilbert said.

[The original] was Michael Landon’s interpretation, and now it’s time for someone else’s interpretation. And I think there’s plenty of room for that. And I think there’s a lot of other stories to mine beyond that. So I think this opens the door in a lot of ways for all kinds of Little House on the Prairie projects.

Gilbert went on to tell EW that the new iteration will “do things that we didn’t get to do necessarily so easily in the ’70s.” She’s referring to the diversity in casting that the new series hopes to achieve, but is also responding to a recent tweet by Megyn Kelly who lamented the possibility of Netflix “woke-fying” the beloved franchise.

Did you watch the original? Have you seen the episode ‘The Wisdom of Solomon’? I don’t think we got more woke than that,” Gilbert told EW. “Did she see any of the episodes we did about drug addiction, about nativism, about Native Americans, chauvinists, anti-semitism, rape, child abuse, child neglect, industrialization?

I mean, we covered everything that’s going on in the world still. It’s not my job to defend the word woke, but to my mind, it just means compassion for all. I don’t understand why that’s a bad thing, and I don’t think anyone can ever convince me of that.

Melissa Gilbert Explains Why she Responded to Megyn Kelly
by Raechal Shewfelt
February 11, 2025

Melissa Gilbert is protective of "Little House on the Prairie" and felt that she had to respond when Megyn Kelly threatened to "ruin" the planned reboot.

"I really wasn't gonna have any comment, and I support the project," Gilbert said Tuesday on "The View". "It's just like, you know, different versions of Little Women. People's interpretation of a classic story. But, when she said that...it shocked me, because you have to have watched Little House on the Prairie to understand what you're talking about."

When co-host Joy Behar complimented "Little House", Gilbert thanked her.

I loved being a part of it, and I do think there’s room for interpretation," said the actress, who has continued to be a part of fan conventions and reunions of much of the cast over the years.

Netflix's Little House on the Prairie reboot casts 4 key roles

Alice Halsey, whose previous TV credits include playing daughter to Brie Larson in Apple TV+'s Lessons in Chemistry, will play wee Laura; Skywalker Hughes (Joe Pickett) will fill the role of older sister Mary; and Luke Bracey (the Aussie star of 2015's Point Break remake) and Crosby Fitzgerald (Palm Royale) will play ...

As stated above, the cast has been chosen, and where is Baby Carrie? They say they are sticking to the books and Carrie was in the story beginning with the first book. Do not argue with me; I have read them three times! (In real life Carrie was born in Kansas so maybe they are going with that but in the book Carrie was already a few years old in Kansas.) Also, Mary's hair is darker than Laura's so I hope they know what they're doing. The cast at least appear to be white with no tattoos or body piercings so that's a relief anyway. (The Ingalls family really was white.)

7 Join "Little House on the Prairie" Reboot
by Rosy Cordero
July 17, 2025

The recurring cast of Netflix‘s "Little House on the Prairie" reboot is growing with seven new additions:

- Barrett Doss (Station 19) will play Emily Henderson, a charming woman who excels at interacting with people and handling numbers, which enables her to run the General Store.

Emily kindly takes in Caleb, an orphan boy who wanders into town.

- Mary Holland (Ghosts) will play Jemma James, the wife of Eli James.

Jemma is a confident woman who has an air of big city and is the town’s busybody.

- Michael Hough (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) will play Eli James, Jemma James’ husband.

Eli works for the railroad and is very supportive of the newcomers arriving in Independence.

- Kowen Cadorath (SkyMed) will play Caleb, a skinny, prairie handsome, pre-teen who has been orphaned and doesn’t say much.

Emily, who runs the General Store, takes Caleb in and gives him a job.

- Thosh Collins (IT: Welcome to Derry) will play Louis, White Sun’s good-natured and levelheaded cousin.

- Maclean Fish (Shoresy) will play Adam Scott, who is boyish and handsome but soft.

He appears as though he hasn’t had a day of hardship in his life.

- Rebecca Amzallag (Titans) will play Lacey Aubert, a beautiful and happily widowed outcast who owns a card room and bar on the edge of town.

Then the creators of this show STRAIGHT UP LIED! They are not sticking by the books! I just read these books last summer for the third time and NONE of these people appear in ANY of the books, even as a passing mention. There is a Mr. Scott in Little House on the Prairie, but he does not fit the description of the Scott above.
