Default How 6 Ads Predicted Blockbuster’s Downfall

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEYjoFGG_Sw

Quote:
At its peak, Blockbuster wasn’t some clueless dinosaur—it was a $6 billion giant pulling in around $800 million a year from one thing customers openly hated: late fees. Inside the company, that cash machine became a trap, sparking lawsuits, activist investors, a boardroom chess match, and a series of pivots that worked on paper… until they didn’t.

In this video, we tell Blockbuster’s story the way it told it itself: through the ads that charted its rise, exposed its $800M addiction, and quietly revealed how the company ended up at war with its own business model.

When it came to video store chains the two common video stores you would always see commercials for was Hollywood Video and Blockbuster Video and in all honesty before Hollywood Video became the top video store chain Blockbuster Video was always the king. Because every time you would see commercials for Blockbuster Video they would be advertise special deals such as "Rent Jurassic Park and get a free snack" Or "Get a dollar off your next movie rental by renting Mr. Holland's Opus" and by promoting commercials promoting these deals Blockbuster Video had indeed proven themselves lucky. But for my parents and me Blockbuster Video was bad luck every time we rented movies from them and I don't how by judging from their commercials how they survived. But every time I rented movies from Blockbuster Video I always had bad luck with them. Take for instance every time my parents and I always rented movies from Blockbuster Video they would always accuse us of returning movies late giving us late fees movies being not in the box and not rewinding the video tapes and when my parents and I complained about these troubles we quit renting movies from Blockbuster Video and we mainly went there to buy DVDs. But I think once Hollywood Video became more popular Blockbuster Video slowed down on commercials and was aiming to be like Netflix but they also tried to launch their own chain of music stores called Blockbuster Music which also had it's own commercials too but failed. But you can see why Blockbuster Video was soon on it's way to retailer heaven because with the rise of streaming services such as Netflix and movie rental kiosks like Redbox becoming popular Blockbuster Video was slowly heading toward it's demise and didn't see the need for commercial airplay on TV anymore. But if there is any video store that was the worst in the world Blockbuster Video would go down in history as the weakest link

Ya its sad honey....

One time I rented a movie from them and at the end of the tape I put a song on it.... I wonder what happend to that tape..... I havent seen it since.....

I forgot what movie it as I put that rap song at the end on... But I get alot of tapes from salvation army and I havent gotton it back yet.......

I generally hate rental tapes because most of them WERE NOT TAKEN CARE OF and they have lines in the movie,etc........ I have some rentals from salvation army,etc.... that are perfectly fine but not many...

People are are the reason alot of this beautiful media didnt make it very long....

I am glad there are as many good 8 track tapes as there is now.. Idiots used to just toss them about in thier cars and treat them horribly and its sad......

8 tracks are goregous..........

People suck....... They let GOOD stuff go and are happy now with garbage and its sad.....
