Nodsmiley Elizabeth Montgomery as Dynasty's Krystle Carrington? It could've happened!

According to Herbie J Pilato's new biography, Twitch Upon a Star, Liz was offered the role of Dynasty's Krystle Carrington but turned it down because she didn't want to be tied down to a series.

Of course, Linda Evans made the role her own, but I wonder how Liz would have fared in the catfight scenes against Joan Collins, or dealing with Pamela Sue Martin's Fallon. That would've been fun to see.

Ahhh, what might have been...

Wow...having Elizabeth as Krystal would have completely changed the show. I have always liked Linda Evans, but Elizabeth would have brought more likeability as well as vulnerability to the role, in my opinion. She definitely could have used her Serena side from Bewitched when she was dealing with Joan Collins' Alexis!

Liz was also offered a several-episode arc on fellow 80s primetime soap, Falcon Crest, which co-starred Robert Foxworth, her future (and final) husband. She turned down that gig, too, and the part ended up going to Kim Novak.

Sounds as if Elizabeth could have made a name for herself as the Queen of the Prime Time soaps...had she been interested...

I just can't even picture her and John Forsythe together...even though she was closer in age to him than Linda Evans was.

I kind of think Liz made the right choice, although it would have been fun to see her as Samantha take on mean Alexis. (Sort of like Sam vs. Sheila.)

^ Great comparison! Can't you just picture Liz in those famous Nolan Miller gowns?

I think Elizabeth would have made a better Alexis. She could really have gone to town with that. And it would have been interesting that Blake's first wife was also a beautiful blonde.

Sounds like a fan fiction story in the making!! Though, honestly, I can't imagine anyone but Joan Collins as Alexis. She WAS Alexis.

I can't imagine EM in the role of either Krystal or Alexis. But I always thought Joan Collins would have been perfect for Endora, in the Bewitched movie!

THAT would've been inspired casting.

I have previously addressed this but, this was around the time that Elizabeth's health issues really started to become a concern. If you look at Elizabeth Montgomery's filmography, you'll notice that she didn't work or appear in an acting project for about five years (save for narrating the 1988 documentary film Coverup: Behind the Iran Contra Affair) from 1985-90.

She probably bailed as soon as she learned that George Peppard would be her co-star. He was slated to be Blake but he upset Esther Shapiro (the show's creator) and he was out.

Aaron Spelling had always said he offered Angie Dickinson the role of Krystle first, but she turned down the offer. (He then reached out to Montgomery, who supposedly didn't want to return to a weekly TV series, preferring TV movies instead). When the show became a massive hit, Dickinson acknowledged to Spelling she had made a terrible mistake, and asked him to consider casting her in a future role. Sure enough, he was developing 'The Colbys', and asked her to come and audition for the role of 'Sable'. He really liked what she did with the character and was going to offer her the role, but someone suggested he audition Stephanie Beecham, who was finishing a hit TV show in the UK. There was something Beecham added to the character that Spelling loved, and he made the offer to her instead of Dickinson.
