The X-Files creator Chris Carter says he gave Ryan Coogler his blessing for a reboot of his landmark sci-fi series, but won’t be involved
Carter tells The Wrap he would only be interested in returning to The X-Files if original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are involved. But he won't be part of the Black Panther director's rebooted series. "Only as a cheerleader," says Carter. "They don’t need my blessing. 20th Century Fox and Disney owns the show. They are free to do with it what they believe. I’m honored that they came to me and asked me, not for my permission, but my blessing." Carter also confirms he spoke to Coogler. "I’m not supposed to be talking about it, according to Disney," he says. "But I’ll tell you, yes. I’ve had a conversation with him. Yes, he likes to go with a diverse cast. And he’s got some good ideas." Carter also says he plans to watch Coogler's rebooted X-Files. |

The X-Files creator Chris Carter says our "everything’s a conspiracy" environment will make Ryan Coogler's reboot "hard" to pull off
During an interview with Inverse, Carter shared from experience why Coogler has a "hard job" ahead of him – adding that Coogler will be facing a bigger hurdle than he had to deal with during the original series run: "Everything's a conspiracy." "No matter what, he's got a hard job. Casting is a hard job. |

Gillian Anderson Gives Update on Ryan Coogler's "The X-Files" Reboot: "Call Me"
by Shania Russell May 1, 2025 Ryan Coogler's planned reboot of "The X-Files" already has Agent Scully's stamp of approval. During a recent appearance on ITV1's "This Morning", Gillian Anderson confirmed that she's feeling optimistic about the return of the paranormal drama and teased that she might end up involved in the project herself. "I spoke to [Coogler], and what I said was, 'If anyone were to do it, I think you are the perfect person, and best of luck," Anderson said. She also told the filmmaker, "Call me." Anderson, who is in the midst of promoting her new film The Salt Path, then addressed her thoughts on returning for the reboot. Though she kept it vague, she didn't completely shut the idea down: "At some point, if the phone rings and it's good and it feels like the right time, perhaps." https://ew.com/gillian-anderson-ryan...pdate-11725813 |
