Sad What About Joan is canceled!

Sorry fans but ABC canceled it for NYPD Blue. I heard this at Zap2it.com.

You've got to be kidding me. The best show on the network has been cancelled?

What?!?!?!?!?

How can they just cancel this show? Give it the time it deserves; this show is hilarious.
If they really cancelled it, I'll be P.O.'d

I don't understand how a show can do well enough as a midseason replacement to be picked up and then cancelled after it comes back to the air with only 2 new episodes. I think we need to write ABC about this. It may not make a difference but then again it may.

20 year bump.

Anyone know what show they're talking about? Clues are a sitcom, 'Joan' was in it, on ABC, and a mid season replacement in 2001.

My guess is they were talking about the sitcom "What About Joan?" which starred Joan Cusack.

I don’t know the answer, so works for me

(I think you’re right though. Time frame fits)

Kyle Chandler was also in What About Joan. It had none of the appeal of Early Edition, though.

ABC's fall lineup on Tuesdays in 2001 was Dharma and Greg/What About Joan/Bob Patterson/Spin City/Philly. What About Joan was a marginal renewal at best, but ABC needed some filler shows as Who Wants to be a Millionaire? was reduced from five nights to two. Joan did even worse in season 2 and was quickly pulled. Bob Patterson, a post Seinfeld starring vehicle for Jason Alexander, was also a disaster and pulled. Spin City moved an hour earlier to 8:30 and the two hour comedy block was reduced to one hour. NYPD Blue had been held as a midseason replacement and moved an hour earlier to 9:00 from its traditional 10PM hour which was now filled by Philly. Dharma and Greg aged fast, this would be its final season as well as Spin City's final season. Fall 2002 freshman 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter replaced Dharma and Greg leading off the night, with According to Jim moving over from Wednesdays.

callmetootie says it was the best show on the network (post #2) and callmetootie has never lied to me before.

Short-Lived Sitcom Potpourri (XXIX) – Star Light, Star Bright

Quote:
Although this dynamic forces her beau (Kyle Chandler) into the role of “straight man” and therefore keeps him criminally under-defined, Joan‘s relationship stories prove to be a conduit for rich comedy that showcases her well and justifies the very existence of her sitcom. Accordingly, that part of the situation works. Unfortunately, it’s barely used after the first few entries, and everything else around it never comes together as well – like her friend group and job as a teacher. Simply, stories about the school are things we’ve seen before, with nothing original offered, and scenes set in her classroom or the teachers’ lounge feel far too removed from the relationship-forward aspect of the situation that plays best, with Joan an awkward kook. What’s more, the supporting cast never gets up to her level. Despite a few capable performers around, specifically Broadway diva Donna Murphy as her assured psychiatrist friend, and Kellie Shanygne Williams as her straight-talking fellow teacher, nobody feels comedically distinct and thus story-providing (even those two).
