"Good Witch" Renewed for Third Season at Hallmark Channel

Ahead of the Season 2 finale on June 19, Hallmark Channel has ordered a 12-episode third season of its original series "Good Witch". Production on Season 3 is scheduled to begin in August in Toronto for a 2017 premiere, including a Halloween special to air in October.

Through the first seven episodes, Season 2 of "Good Witch" is averaging a solid 2.3 household rating and 2.5 million total viewers in Live+3.

“Fans are enchanted by the magical adventures of Cassie, Sam and Grace – charming characters who have inspired our viewers to believe in the magic that can be found in our everyday lives. We’re excited to see the captivating adventure continue with a third season,” said Michelle Vicary, EVP Programming and Network Publicity at Crown Media Family Networks.

“Our original series have performed outstandingly well on a very competitive night, and we will continue to bring quality entertainment to Sundays with the August debut of our newest series Chesapeake Shores.”

Based on the network’s successful movie franchise, "Good Witch" is set in the fictional town of Middleton and centers on Cassie Nightingale (Catherine Bell) and her bright, teenage daughter Grace (Bailee Madison), who shares her mom’s special intuitive charm.

Sam (James Denton), a doctor, and his teenage son (Rhys Matthew Bond) live next door and are charmed by the “magical” mother-daughter duo and wonder is it really magic, a lucky coincidence or just a special intuitive insight only this family possesses?

Just weeks after the Season 4 finale of "Good Witch" on July 1, Hallmark Channel has renewed the supernatural comedy-drama series for a fifth season, the network announced at TCA.

Based on Hallmark’s successful Good Witch movie franchise that marked its 10th anniversary this year, the series stars Catherine Bell, Bailee Madison and James Denton

“The success of Good Witch continues to enjoy after 10 years on our network is a testament to the engaging characters our talented cast brings to life coupled with the magical storytelling that has carried from the movies to the primetime series,” said Michelle Vicary, EVP, Programming and Network Publicity, Crown Media Family Networks.

“We’re thrilled to continue the journey in season five and can’t wait for fans to see what’s next for Cassie, Sam, Grace and the rest of the captivating cast of characters that inhabit Middleton.”

In Season 4, "Good Witch" averaged a 2.6 HH rating, 456,000 W25-54 and nearly 2.8 Total Viewers on a Live+3 basis, helping Hallmark Channel to be the highest-rated and most-watched cable network during Weekend Prime among Households and Total Viewers for the full season, excluding sports.

"Good Witch" is one of two long-running scripted series on Hallmark Channel, along with flagship "When Calls the Heart", headed into its sixth season.

Three weeks into its fifth-season run, Hallmark Channel has renewed top-rated series "Good Witch" for a sixth season. Season 6 of the supernatural comedy-drama will be without Bailee Madison, who will be exiting after starring as Grace Russell since the series’ 2015 launch.

“Once again, being the No. 1 series in cable, we are thrilled to announce a Season 6 pickup of Good Witch,” Michelle Vicary, EVP Programming & Publicity at Crown Media Family Networks, said in a statement to Deadline. “Bailee Madison will always be a beloved member of the Hallmark family.”

"The velvet pouches of soil discovered by Cassie, Abigail and Joy at the end of last season mark the start of a new Merriwick mystery for the cousins to unravel that leads them reflecting on their pasts and how learning how certain life events have impacted who they are now.

Alongside the usual Middleton fun viewers have come to love, new relationships, personal challenges and romance are in store, making Season 7 one fans will never forget."

Hallmark Channel’s "Good Witch" will not see an eighth season. The cable channel revealed today that the series will end after the current seventh season, with the July 25 season finale serving as the series finale.

“Good Witch has enchanted viewers for over a decade with eight original movies, in addition to the seven-season series,” said Randy Pope, SVP, programming & development. “We thank our leads whose chemistry and talent made Good Witch such a beloved and uniquely special viewing experience.

Catherine Bell, who has brought the inimitable Cassie Nightingale to life for 13 years, and James Denton, who as Dr. Sam Radford has added so much charm and humor to the series. We also extend our gratitude and thanks to the entire cast and crew for their dedication and hard work.”
