Here's the latest news-filled update on Dawn. I'm copy-pasting it from the email this time:
William posted a new update to For Dawn (Update 20): Much obliged to the folks who've donated. I apologize for not individually thanking everyone. Dawn finally started therapy again. The rules for what and how insurance pays keep blocking an effective program of therapy. Even when I get insurance on the phone telling the SNF she has "unlimited" therapy (provided the facility requests it), it fumbles the ball or is overwhelmed by paperwork. It's very frustrating. In the last update, I was optimistic Dawn could be moved to a SNF much closer to home. I mostly drive Dawn's automatic as the awful 405 Fwy takes its toll on me and the car (in July I took her 2020 Ford to the dealership for a normal tune-up and was told the entire engine needs to be replaced, even though I drive her car like a grandma). Alas, the nice place close to home doesn't accept Medicare, MediCal or Aetna and stopped taking my calls asking what the heck they will take. Three positive bits of news: first, fellow child star Johnny Whittaker visited Dawn. They've been friends since they were on the same CBS set during the productions of M3S and Family Affair. Second, Dawn accepted an invitation to attend the Hollywood Show, Sept. 5-6, along with her TV family. Since she became ill, she had only signed one autographed photo to superfan Sunshine and her signature has become more rare, especially when she signs cast photos along with Katie, Chip & Ernie (except for the triplets, these four actors are the last surviving cast members with Stan Livingston being the only one from the very beginning!) I'm working hard on logistics to make this happen, such as finding a nurse to attend Dawn and figuring out transport. The last estimate from a wheelchair carrier was $590 for about a 40-mile roundtrip. If anyone has a wheelchair van and would like to assist for a better price, please advise ASAP. Third, Dawn got a message from Andy, who was a kid her age she met while filming Shoot Out on location. It brought a big smile. The transport cost could've been avoided if Dawn had had the therapy she needed to transfer from chair to car. At best, if she can indeed attend, she might sign just enough autographs to pay for the transport. Check out the website--they wrote a nice, long bio on Dawn. https://www.hollywoodshow.com/default/main Mostly, her first overnight outing is so she can reconnect with her fellow child stars and fans. That's all for this update. Again, thank you for caring about Dawn. |

Update 21:
Dawn had her first non-medical adventure outside of the hospital last weekend. I couldn't have done it without help from a lovely nurse who came along and a patron who paid for the hotel overnight. It was the first time since Oct. 21, 2022, that we were able to sleep in the same bed. Her fans were very kind and generous, buying more autographs in a single show than ever before. One nice lady really went to town buying autographs! Dawn got to chat with old friends like Geri Jewell, Johnny Whitaker, Kent McCord, Tatum O'Neil, and of course, her TV family of Katie, Chip and Ernie. She also got help with transportation to Burbank from Victoria Paige Meyerink, who appeared on M3S in an episode that included Jodi Foster; the two have been close friends since then. The event was a logistical challenge, but we got through that and Dawn was the happiest I've seen her since this whole ordeal began. After the show, Dawn noted that she'd sold enough autographs to pay for a couple (after insurance) of months of SNF care. Some of the fans visiting her said they'd read about and donated to her [here] on [GoFundMe]! Truly, a lot of love in the room. Below is a recent article and a YouTube about the event. Other friends also mentioned they'd seen Dawn and the M3S cast members on TV news. https://parade.com/news/my-three-son...nce-after-coma https://www.bing.com/videos/rivervie...0C4C&FORM=VIRE I want to also note that I finally won another battle with insurance and Dawn is back in aggressive therapy. Major thanks to all of the GFM folks who helped to make this event possible. https://www.gofundme.com/f/mp5nb-for...mpaign-update& |

Update 22 includes an address to send well-wishes:
Thanks to all who care about Dawn. Since I last updated, she has been on several trips to the ER for internal bleeding. Last Tuesday, she had a procedure to find out why. Since then, the bleeding has abated and the doctors say it isn't cancer, but they still aren't sure about why she had internal hemorrhaging. Otherwise, she's doing well in upper torso therapy and stretching of her back and lower torso. If you sent us a personal message and I haven't responded, it's because recent events and days hanging out at the ER or big hospital take their toll. Also, the 41-mile roundtrip to her care facility involves the busiest freeway in SoCal, making the trip home an average of two hours. I need to be with her daily as much as she counts on me in our symbiotic relationship. Dawn's birthday is Jan. 11. Some of her fellow castmembers and other Hollywood-types are planning a birthday party for her. It's uncertain if she'll ever attend another autograph signing show like the recent one in Burbank; that was super challenging for both of us. On asking for autographs, please check with the fan page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1648456999170058 Her friend Tracie runs the page. Tracie was Dawn's benefactor for the Hollywood Show https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainm...ma/ar-AA1M0SHB I personally don't do social media now that I've retired from Army Public Affairs, so joining Tracie's fan page for Dawn will get much faster replies. Sometimes, people send items to be autographed but they use the wrong address. If you want to send her a card or gift, the address is: Dawn Lyn 2828 Cochran St., #140 Simi Valley, CA 93065 If you want to request autographs, kindly ask on the fan page. Dawn sends her love to you wonderful people, and you have my gratitude for reminding her that she has folks who genuinely care. Mahalo. |
