I didn't really watch Parker Lewis. So the Ferris Bueller TV show was that bad, huh?

I remember watching the Ferris Bueller tv show, don't really remember it being all that bad, seen worse tv spinoffs of movies.

I've never seen the movie and I remember when the TV series was on but I never watched that either. Sounds like I didn't miss much.

I found some episodes on YouTube and watched part of an episode, yeah except for Richard Riehle it was terrible. Even the plot of the episode was lame.

This show had the best time slot coming on immediately after the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air but that pilot episode really turned people off. Also, it was too much time since the movie was done and everyone was trying to cash in the 'white teen' trend that was heavy in that period. Fox's answer to this was 'Parker Lewis Can't Lose'. Admittedly, NBC's Ferris did better in ratings than Parker but Fox was still a new network so expectations were lower. Also, Parker aired on Sundays at 7pm EST and lasted until 1993.
Even on the series finale of Parker, they mocked the NBC rendition of Ferris by having a still of the star saying 'so that's how it's done' at the end of the series. I think if True Colors didn't go through so many deaths of cast members and cast changes, Fox probably would have opted to bring them back for a third season than Parker. But then again, Parker had a better syndication run than True Colors, you can't find that show anywhere. |
