Rowdy tears up this dysfunctional family sitcom from The WB's original lineup. |

This is trying to be like that "Married with children" sitcom type.
The other discontinued shows, which are like these two are: "Nikki" and "Off Centre". |

I think that I get why Unhappily Ever After gets a bad rap now. Unlike the Bundys on Married...With Children, the Malloys on Unhappily... simply weren't as likable or charming. Unhappily... was often very mean-spirited and petty with its humor. MWC wasn't exactly a wholesome show either, but it could be much more subversive and satirical than it may have gotten credit for. Unhappily... didn't have that at its core, so that's pretty much why it had to continuously fall back on Nikki Cox's sex appeal to drive it. With Al Bundy, he had that pathetic, beaten-down, but still determined common man appeal to him. I never got that dogged "everyman" vibe from Jack Malloy. In other words, I don't think that there was anybody on Unhappily... that you could truly relate to. The Malloys were like an upper middle class version of the Bundys but without any foils like the blue collar Bundys had with the yuppie Rhodes. |

Then came both short-lived follow-ups: Nikki and Off Centre.

I've been reading comments elsewhere online, and I was reminded how much this show really fell off of the face of the planet in the past 20 years. The show produced 100 episodes, which is the standard for syndication. And yet, only syndicated for two years and as I type this, has no official DVD release either nor is it streaming anywhere.
You would think that given Nikki Cox's later success on Las Vegas, Kevin Connolly being on Entourage, and Justin Berfield ending up as Reese in Malcolm in the Middle, UEA would be acknowledged by somebody. So it makes you wonder if most people really and truly hated this show? |

What are the biggest mistakes that were made during the production of the WB sitcom Unhappily Ever After (1995-99)?
