Mary Louise Wilson’s autobiography briefly alluded to her ODAAT tenure. She simply put, hated the show. She was a seasoned Broadway actress and it must have been galling to hear Bonnie Franklin hold fort. MLW said that Bonnie was always going on about her “acting beats”. She also was forced to emulate the SHOUTING acting style of the rest of the cast. She had some low key line like “Hi girls,” and she wasn’t delivering it to the director's satisfaction.
So she was made to stay after the main filming concluded so she could be recorded in “HI GIRLS” mode. To be more specific, after the audience left the weekly taping of ODAAT the cast would have to stay behind to 'react' off-camera to Bonnie never-ending demands for her close-ups. And they were numerous every week. |

The show didn’t need an “Ethel.” An. Was not the kind to have a “wacky friend.” Also, there’s something about Ginny that is unlikeable.
